Lithuania NT 2010

suricata, if Šaras and Kaukėnas won't come there might be a lot of changes <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Yeah, I think Gecevičius surely will go to WC. Also, I think Motiejūnas might be a real competitor for the last spot.

What's that "pool"?

pool is the sum of the players that could be called to the NT (as in talent pool). Like for lithuania you would name 20-25 players that could eventually be in the final 12. Say saras, janavicius, pocius, kelys, gustas, kaukenas, gecevicius, kleiza, 2xlavri, javtokas, motiejunas, vasiliauskas, siska, jankunas, etc, etc (yes, i know i am leaving players out, it's just an example <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> )

I don't see either saras or kaukenas being in the team btw. motiejunas would be a very very good addition. i am all for talking big talents to the nt soon

If I would be a coach <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Second NT: Ž. Kelys (Rytas), Ž.Janavičius (Aiščiai), Š. Vasiliauskas (Žalgiris), S. Babrauskas (Rytas), R. Seibutis (Bilbao), A. Juškevičius (Žalgiris), Deivydas Gailius (Šiauliai), A. Šikšnius (Šiauliai), V. Lipkevičius (Aiščiai) J. Sinica (Rytas), M. Katelynas (Costa Blanca), V.Čepukaitis, M. Valukonis (Aiščiai), M. Adriuškevičius (Costa Blanca).

First NT: Š. Jasikevičius (PAO), M. Kalnietis (Žalgiris), A. Eitutavičius (Just because Kemzūra mentioned him), R. Kaukėnas (Real), M. Gecevičius (Rytas), M. Pocius (Žalgiris), M. Lukauskis (Asvel), S. Jasaitis (Galatasaray), J. Mačiulis (Armani), A. Jomantas (Rytas), M.Kuzminskas (Šiauliai), L. Kleiza (OLY), K. Lavrinovič (Siena), D. Lavrinovič (Real), P. Jaunkūnas (Khimki), M. Petravičius (Armani), D. Motiejūnas (Benneton), R. Javtokas (Khimki).

Another possible additions: T. Delininkaitis (Horrible season, without a club currently), A. Macijauskas (Theoretical and idealistic chances <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />).

Personally, despite Gecevičius who is almost certain for WC IMO, I would like to see Motiejūnas, Pocius and M. Kuzminskas fighting hard for the spot.

there are a lot of players i don't know from the second team.

from the first i would take zavackas instead of jomantas and i would really think twice before taking underperformers like lukauskis and jasaitis. I would probably take babrauskas and seibutis instead. About Eitutavicius and kuzminskas i don't really have an opinion, have seen too little...

Jomantas is SF while Zavatckas is PF and that means latter has no single chance, IMO. I agree with you about Lukauskis, but if you would follow Jasaitis performances at NT you would be surprised to see he's the most stable scorer of our NT lately (and he was the guy who kept Lithuania in front at Olympics semifinals against Spain). IMO, he's a almost a lock while can play both SG and SF.

Seibutis is having a horrible season and I doubt he will surprise anyone this season. Babrauskas is not the material for WC IMO, his playing style is very familiar with Mačiulis and the latter is really stronger player.

it is worrying that jasaitis is the most stable scorer for lithuania. I have only watched a couple of games by seibutis this season and he wasn't half bad, maybe in other games he sucks. As for babrauskas i think he's a good deal more agile than maciulis, but by no means a better player. Anyway, i just don't like lukauskis and jasaitis as players, and i am not impressed by jomantas who looks like a siskauskas with way less talent.

The likes of Lukauskis and Delininkaitis should be left outside the NT. If we are so desperate to make the NT younger at any cost then it should be these type of players who are left out. Let them just enjoy summer holidays <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

Babrauskas can sometimes hit crucial shots but he's not NT material at all. Plus he often argues with the referees and lose his temper too fast. Since he would be just a 3rd option off the bench I don't think he would be useful while on the court. In Rytas he has much more playing time therefore he has more chances to make a difference.

Gecevicius should definetely take his first steps in the Lithuanian NT in this year's WC, he proved this year in Rytas that he's capable of playing high-class basketball. I see him as the next "Macas". <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

IMO Valanciunas is still too young for this year's NT, but next year he will be a contender. Motiejunas could already be in the team this year. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Otherwise I don't really see anyone else that stands out this year, the others are gonna be the usual (unfortunately) unless Kaukenas and Saras come back. It's gonna be quite a headache for Kemzura this summer... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Unsure' />

It's good to see a Rytas fan on TB <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Thanks for joining.

The guards will be our main concern. Gecevičius could even become an important player in NT this year already with Kaukėnas being out.

Kemzūra should announce the preliminary list of players in April so we will have a chance to see at which players are being considered by him. I doubt there will be many surprise inclusions though.

Yeah, he'll probably not want to risk too much by taking too young and inexperienced players. No coach wants to end up in a situation like Butautas' last year <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Mellow' />

I hope he doesn't take Eitutavicius, because he's 27 years old and plays in Cholet Basket, so for me he isn't really the required level for the NT, but maybe I'm wrong <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I think Gecevičius would have a decent role in NT no matter if Kaukėnas is coming or not. Who could be the second option after Kaukėnas at SG line if not Gecevičius? No-one unless Kemzūra would stick with some subjective mind as Sireika and Butautas used to do. Not to mention that Gecevičius seems like the best P&R specialist after Šaras in Lithuania lately. Oh yeah that could be Lukauskis or Delininkaitis, but I hope Kemzūra will be smart enough.

There's an open hole at PG position. Kalnietis is not doing anything good this season. Our chances to bring the medal in two upcoming years (including Eurobasket 2011 in Lithuania) will depend on Å aras again.

Indeed. We could even generalize that Lithuania already facing problems with guards line while old generation (Šiška, Šaras, Kaukėnas, Macijauskas) is slowly fading away. We saw how horrible Lithuania might be while playing with mediocre backcourt. And only Gecevičius ATM sends clear message that he's about to change one of these guys. On the positive note, Macijauskas might still come back next season and could be available for 2011-2012 cycle of NT. As or point guard position, after Šaras no-one seems sufficient for Lithuania as medal contender at the moment. It means we should wait for some new brake-outs.

On positive note, frontcourt future looks pretty much fantastic.

Arvydas Macijauskas is working individually and dreaming about a chance to play in WC this summer. Now, he's doing everything by himself and waiting for Kosauskas (Prokom) while he'll be able to work with him. More over, Macijauskas seems to be positive about probable offer from Rytas.

I'm not sure Macas can get his shape back only with NT team camp and friendly games, but it's nice to hear he misses BB a lot and he's about to come back on action if everything goes well.

Kaukėnas says he never heard any rumours about him leaving Real. As for NT, "The important thing that I would be healthy and would be standing on my feet steadily. NT needs strong players."

That's interesting news. I'd like to see him play once again too. Macas won't in a decent shape because of lack of playing practice. Still looking at our other options in guard positions, he could help NT more than the likes of Lukauskis or Delininkaitis in my opinion. Having all - Kaukėnas, Gecevičius and Macijauskas in NT would be really good.

Bingo. I hope Kemzura won't take Eitutavicius or anyone else instead of Gecevicius or "average Macijauskas" only because the subject will be "PG". I'm thinking about Šaras, Kaukėnas, Gecevičius, Macijauskas (if he's at least a shadow of what he can be) and I won't miss any of our point guards like Kalnietis, Prekevičius, Mažutis, Delininkaitis. That would be one nice dream after the nightmare in Poland <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Kemzura announced the candidates already -> http://www.talkbasket.net/news/lithuania...-2992.html No Saras, nor Kaukenas. I wonder if they weren't included because an agreement has been reached so that they will play next year and will skip WC or they are yet to be included later?

Vilius, this list is a fake. Kemzūra and federation denied that they published this list and even more Kemzūra assured that both Jasikevičius and Kaukėnas will surely be in the list when it will be announced. The official list of the candidates will be announced in May 4. This one is only another poor attempt to get more ratings by Lrytas.
