Yeah, FYROM plays great defense, you can't take this away from them!

_______________________________________

Lithouania made a lot of unforgivable turnovers but even with these TO's if they didn't make the wrong pass in the final possesion they'd be winners. This one(and many other TO's) were childish.

I was very impressed with the refs because they played the game 50-50 clearly, no question! Thup

And what makes it even more impressive is the fact that one of the refs was Lamonica!! Laugh Wink

FYROM naturalizing Bo is by far the best decision in the NT area in the last decade. This guy is simply amazing, taking a team like FYROM to the semi-final is worth the MVP title, nothing less. The guy is a phenomenon, I feel a bit sorry for Siena because he's not gonna stay there for more than 1 season, I bet many NBA scouts have seen this performance. Anybody knows who has the rights for McCalebb? (if he was drafted)

A pathetic performance by Lithuania. And I picked them to win by 20+. I expect the Lithuanians to get behind Hellas now for the rest of this tournament. Hopefully!! Teams from GROUP E that everyone thought were the stronger with more quality and talent, were, and still are complete and utter morons. What a joke!! I feel many other surprises manifesting in this tournament. Tongue

Quote:Lietuva! Liths got this by +15 or more. Liths are just too talented, skilled and deep. Still one can't totally count out FYROM. It seems when FYROM plays supposed superior opponents those opponents have "bad games". I don't think Lietuva will have a "bad game" but stranger things have happened....

WOW! They lost! I have not watch the game yet. I guess Liths mysteriously had a "bad game". I think FYROM is a Jinx...

That's more likely more than Greece can give their players, seeing as you guys are bankrupt!!! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />
Although the irony is that Greeks are some of the biggest employers in FYROM feeding the country and keeping it alive <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' />

Huge result for FYROM, truly unbelievable. I never expected such lacklustre performance from Lithuania, but FYROM pretty much had a perfect game. I think they deserve a medal for their performance <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

FYROM deserves respect and no-one will take a way all that they win. BUT, I don't see them being that good. Lithuania sucked big time tonight and still they won it...well the way they did it - with amazing TOs of Liths and acrobatic shots by little Bo. My point is, such team is one tournament team, at least with current roster. Again, they win it, deserved and maybe I'm too fast to look at the future.

I agree that they are a one tournament team. But if you look at the stats you'll see that they do have the best defense. They have the most steals; they conceded the second less amount of baskets, the teams that play against them have the most TOs. So they do play great defense. That's not up for debate.

I don't agree that they played a great game, I didn't think they played that great at all, neither did Lithuania.

I think they might be psychologically stronger than most teams because they don't seem to break. All their games have been close. All of them. The only two games they lost were really, really close and they played both, without their starting C, and they are a really short team.

Spain is going to beat them with ease I think. They deserve to get a medal for they way they played so far, so I'm cheering for them.

This is not luck, this is a great team effort from mostly average players who play with a ton of heart so major props to them.

Spain will role over them. They pretty well coached (defence) and that's the reason they did what they did, but I'm still not impressed by that level. I can't decide what bothers me more - the fact that we lost or the fact how we lost, we could take this even in the worst game of the tournament. Well, Macedonia gets really ticket from Spain, I'm pretty sure.

You really think that based on quality, they deserve to be in the final four?! Unsure

Today, FYROM was lucky that Lithouanians had that kind of game.

The only thing I can say for sure is that they play awesome defense!

FYROM played really well. They distribute the ball nicely, they play tenacious D. Bo is the man but the other players do their part. I quite like them as a team.

Their fans on the other hand are a complete joke. I wanted Lithuania to win for obvious reasons but it adds salt to the wound that we gave their trashy fans the satisfaction of victory.

45 seconds into the game there was already a fight when they wanted to role out a massive flag which would have been over the top of 2 sections of Lithuanian fans. Needless to say the Lithuanians were having none of it so the Macedonians started throwing punches. At half time the Macedonians appeared to be getting into fights with themselves and then attacked security.

I give security a ton of credit for how well they handled the situation. With that said there was a small batch of Macedonians sitting near me mixed in with the rest of the Lithuanians who were singing and cheering but were civilized.

Its pretty crazy to juxtapose the relaxed security behind the Spanish and Slovenian fans in the first game to the intense security in the second game.

In any event Lithuania MUST beat Slovenia today to qualify for the olympic qualification tournament. We won't be satisfied with that but failing to do so would make this Eurobasket a total disaster for Lithuania and would send Kemzura packing.

In my opinion, Kemzura have to be sucked anyway. Bag

I bet the Skopjan fans wanted to pull off some political propagandistic bullshit with their giant flag too. Not atypical of a uber nationalist, borderline fascist 'country'. As regards the game, as we say in Greek, Lithuania put out its own eyes. The win was in Lithuanian hands all along. Why oh why was the last attack a 3 point shot?! Lithuania should have just gone for a quick basket to put themselves ahead and that most likely would have been the end of the game. Mistakes like that get paid for.

The final shot was wide open and a step inside the line. I have no problem with a wide open shot and thoguht that the play was well designed. Jasaitis has to make that shot but sometimes they just don't fall.

The issue I had was Songaila forcing that pass to Saras that got intercepted and led to the 3 pointer to take the lead. Songaila has to hold onto the ball. Yes Saras is automatic at the line but Songaila is a good FT shooter. He should have let them foul him instead of throwing the ball cross court. That is where the game was lost.

Great post. I agree with you 100 percent.

Bo was not drafted, and can sign with any NBA team. In fact I never heard of him at the University of New Orleans. New Orleans is not a commonly discussed NCAA team.

In such a situation I would go for the drive, and only go for a shot if defense has closed every lane. This was not a mature response from Lithuania in such a clutch moment.
