Union Olimpija
#1
This season Olimpija will start almost from scratches. The loans are slowly starting to get smaller, so there had to be cut made on wage budget, which will be only around ONE MILLION EUROS. The team will have quite a lot of youngsters in addition of two or maximum three experienced players.

Current team looks like this:

C -

PF - Deon Thompson (203, 1988)

SF - Dino Murič (200, 1990)

SG - Jaka Blažič (196, 1990), Sasu Salin (192, 1991)

PG -

There are several new names circling around Olimpija. Alen Omič (216, 1992) is almost done deal, and so could be Klemen Prepelič (191, 1992), who is probably the biggest prospect playing in Slovenia, and Luka Rupnik (182, 1993).

* Erjon Kastrati and Gezim Morina are also listed on the official Olimpija website, but there are several rumors that are both going to leave Olimpija.

I have heard rumors that Alen Omic also could go to Partizan. But I've seen him play yet, and the same goes for Klemen.

Alen, could you tell me more about Prepelič and Omič? About their games etc?

Partizan was interested in Omič, but staying in Slovenia was always his first option. The only thing that was/is stopping his transfer was/is unknown situation at Olimpija, but now things are getting straight in order. What can I say about him? He was playing the last four years for my local club, so I have watched him on at least 60 games. During the last two years, he made an amazing progress. Three years ago nobody could ever thought he would be able to play serious minutes in Slovenian league and now he is preparing with Slovenian senior national team. He is quite fast for a center, great rebounder, consistent shooter, with nice FG and FT percentage. His weakness is his weight, but he is currently doing on that, because he must gain around 10 kg to be able to fight against Batiste, Lorbek ... Despite being only 20 years old, he was already the first center for last two years for Zlatorog in Adriatic and Slovenian league! Great potential who will surely became one of the best centers in Europe.

About Prepelič. Shooting guard, born killer. He is one the most mature 19 y.o. player I have ever seen. Numbers in Adriatic league speaks for itself. 5th in MVP rankings, 5th in points per game (14.23), 9th in free throws percentage, 10th in assists, 1st in received fouls. And those numbers he earned in his first senior season! Born leader. Perfect shooter, he can shoot from every position in every situation. The majority of his points are from three pointers, but he is also an incredible fast-break player. When it comes to critical situations in the game, he always takes the things in to his own hands. He is really "annoying" defender. Klemen has the potential to be among the best Euroleague players in future. Due to problems with shooting guards in Slovenia, he will surely be an important part of Slovenian national team on Eurobasket2013. He already had a lot of offers from the best European teams, especially from Spain, for instance from Valencia, Caja and also from some Italian teams. I spoke with couple of journalists from Italy and Spain about him, and everyone is considering him as a mixture of Navarro and Becirovič. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' />

Next signings in Olimpija will also be Marko Pajic (204, 1992) and Luka Rupnik (182, 1993). Olimpija will have all the leaders from Slovenian U20 team! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Olimpija signed Croatian/Slovenian forward Dražen Bubnič (205, 1986). There is a rumour that they will also sign Aron Baynes (208, 1986) and Teemu Rannikko (189, 1980), which would be awesome. Especially Baynes is great player!

Current roster:

C -

PF - Deon Thompson (203, 1988), Dražen Bubnič (205, 1986)

SF - Dino Murič (200, 1990)

SG - Jaka Blažič (196, 1990), Sasu Salin (192, 1991)

PG - Dominic Waters (185, 1986)

Yes I know Dominic Waters well. I've seen him play a couple of times since he came to Belgium.

Last year he was the leader in assists, he's a leader, a decent shooter and a good defender.

I think that he can be a good player for Olimpija. He does everything the coach asks him to do, a real teamplayer

Olimpija is filling it's roster. Aron Baynes (208, 1986), Teemu Rannikko (189, 1980) and Dylan Page (204, 1982) officialy joined. Dylan Page came as a replacement for Deon Thompson. I think they will all be great addition. They all have really good stats, they are all experienced. I'm sure Page will be better and of course cheaper than Thompson.

C - Aron Baynes (208, 1986)

PF - Dylan Page (204, 1982), Dražen Bubnič (205, 1986)

There are currently 8 players in the team (5 foreigners), so Olimpija needs four more players, that must have Slovenian passport (due to rules in Slovenian league). Those four players will probably be center Alen Omič, power forward Marko Pajič, shooting guard Klemen Prepelič and point guard Luka Rupnik.

Nice team for a budget worth one million euros. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I really hope that Alen Omič, Marko Pajič, Klemen Prepelič and Luka Rupnik will sign with Olimpija. I really excited to see these players play. From what you told be Alen, I'm very interested to see the games of Olimpija in the Euroleague. If these players sign a contract with Olimpija, I think that they will get a lot of chances to play. This would be great signings <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Alen now that Jaka Lakovic will leave Galatasaray, is there a possibility that he come to Olimpija?

Marko Pajič signed for Krka. It's a good move for him. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

About Lakovič, there is no way, he could join Olimpija. His salary is almost as high as Olimpija's whole budget, and they also have Rannikko and Waters on point guard. Maybe if this have happened month ago, they could reach some kind of an agreement, but in current situation is unrealistic.

Olimpija also signed a multi year contract with Emir Sulejmanovič (203, 1995), young prospect from their junior team. Prepelič and Omič will surely join them in couple of days, Rupnik will sign if his team agrees with transfer fee. If not, they will resign Jan Močnik (176, 1987) as third point guard. Olimpija will also sign one American small forward.

C - Aron Baynes (208, 1986), Alen Omič (215, 1992)

PF - Dylan Page (204, 1982), Dražen Bubnič (205, 1986), Emir Sulejmanovič (203, 1995)

SF - Dino Murič (200, 1990), Jaka Blažič (196, 1990)

SG - Klemen Prepelič (191, 1992), Sasu Salin (192, 1991)

PG - Teemu Rannikko (189, 1980), Dominic Waters (185, 1986), Luka Rupnik (183, 1993)

This could be the youngest team in Euroleague, beside Partizan.

Too bad on Lakovic, I really thought he was going to take a pay-cut so that he could play in his home country because he isn't getting any younger. But maybe they can sign him during the season when no other team signs him.

I like the team of Olimpija. It may be a young team but it will be a huge experience for these youngsters. I can't wait to see them play in the Euroleague!

Olimpija extended the contract to Jan Močnik (176, 1987). Luka Rupnik is also training with them, even though they have 3 point guards under the contract. He might go on a loan. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Alen Omič will sign soon. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
