BBL Season 07/08
I was wondering how does the Sakalauskas team is doing <!-- s:cool: --><!-- s:cool: -->
They're getting back on track.

Sakalauskas has done an amazing job over the last years, but this season has not been up to standard. The summer signings didn't work out as planned, especially Brian Brown on Point Guard. Brown is a score-first guard, while his predecessor Brian Jones had made the successful transformation from score-first to pass-first under Sakalauskas. So the decision to not resign Jones and get Brown instead has not really paid off.

As stated, they struggled in the beginning, but now they've made some midseason signings in Center Haryasz and Power Forward Tolliver. And they're contending for a playoff spot again.

German Bundesliga has been shocked lately by the bankruptcy of Cologne 99ers, the most successful German club in the last years, domnestically as internationally. It is not sure yet whether the club will survive and even play the season to an end. The best players have the club though: Toby Bailey left for Spain, and Aleksandar Nadjfeji plus Imanuell McElroy, arguably two of the best five BBL players in the last three or four years, have both switched jerseys and are now playing for ALBA Berlin, in what was considered to be a real heavy blockbuster move for BBL standard. Both have had an immediate impact and seem to strengthen the team a lot, especially defensively. Stefanovic and Subotiv have had to leave the club in the process...

The Cologne 99ers on the other hand would surprise everyone (given they play the season to an end), if they managed to get a playoff spot. The team ist just way too young and is now lacking their two leaders. But they have other worries at the moment I guess...

Current Bundesliga table:

1 ALBA BERLIN 16 - 4

2 Artland Dragons 15 - 4
