Eurobasket 1995 finals, Serbia& Montenegro vs. Lithuania
#1
I managed to get my hands on this notorious final. I only just became a teen when this final was played, I read about it, but never managed to watch it. Djordjevic had an insane game with 9/12 3p!!!!! Danilovic had some massive 'show your nuts' attempts, including two dunks in Sabonis's face. Divac had a good game too, but simply couldn't contain Sabonis enough without getting himself fouled out of the game. Almost the same would have happened to Rebraca who was unfortunate to get an elbow in the face after a low-post dunk from Sabonis. Bodiroga was very positive as well, although he didn't really step up in the second half of the game. Who the hell was Obradovic the player? A relative of Zeljko the assistant coach? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rofl3' />

From what I saw, Lithuania was severely betrayed by the referees, that SOB Tolliver from the US. No surprise there was the SOB Greek ref Pitsilkas there, but luckily he didn't make all of the bad calls.

Marciulionis was just unstoppable. Crazy 2p accuracy, with 2/2 3p shots as well. He was veritably on fire that day. Karnisovas too was excellent all round, making some 'muscling in' and clincher shots. Of course we can't forget the miracle of nature, Sabonis who was the ultimate fear of the Serbs who hacked away at him, clotheslining him, and using every dirty trick in the book to get him out of his game. This was evident in his 2p percentage which was around 5/11 if I remember correctly. Still his passing ability was just something phenomenal. Into 5-7 minutes of the game, who could forget that low post receive-the-pass-and-bat-it-to-your-teammate-who's-behind-your-back pass from a man over 2.20 m in height?! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

The bad calls without being given fouls to Sabonis, or calling charges TWICE on Marciulionis were a daylight robbery, and it was no surprise that the whole Lithuanian bench was ready to get up and walk off (after the charge called on Lukminas's drive from defence played by Savic who didn't remain stationary long enough) at this farce called a European Championship final.

The refs were too relaxed in letting the game get too physical, and this led to an overall drop in the quality of the final. The game too was very individual mostly made up of 1 on 1's and not enough team play.

Opinions? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
