Greece NT 2010 - Black Urum - Jun 25, 2010

Greeks never change... still dreaming about beating Spain.

I don't know if you have realised it, but after Spain NT, even Spanish clubs are now owning Greek teams in the past 3 years.

Even without p. Gasol, Spain is 1 level above Greece. Of course that doesn't mean that Greece can't beat them in a single match. Greece beat USA in 2006.

But what's the point of living and breathing just to dream of beating Spain NT? In case you haven't noticed, Greece must pass Turkey, Russia, Puerto Rico, a couple of knock-out rounds and THEN worry about Spain.

That's what I'm talking about. But than I hear every summer (from some fans and not only Panathinaikos) that Spanoulis is way better than Navarro and Zisis is no worse than Rudy is. What should Spain do to convince them - to smash Greece 100:50? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> Anyway, Greece can still be one of the best teams in WC, but some Greeks should admit Spain is a big favorite and one level above all teams (maybe except USA, no idea...).

It's not enough. Greece has been trashed by Australia by 50, Lithuania by 30 etc, but of you ask a Greek, he'll tell you Greece is better.

As for comparing Navarro and Rudy to Spanoulis and Zisis, well... Homer was Greek, so it's only natural most Greeks suffer from homerism.

Greece NT 2010 - suricata - Jun 25, 2010

If sofo is in shape. in the finals he could barely last 3' per quarter on the floor. Anyway, we are no oracles here. You believe it's gonna be 50/50, fine by me. I think they are better as a team, especialy with the federation puppet on the bench. If greece meets spain i guess we will have our answer...
Spain is way deeper and way more talented
Well alright we are talking about the Spain, the World Champion. Then again Greece is runner-up. You cannot say that Spain is way deeper and way more talented than Greece, at least typically on the papers. Still, yes they are better, but at that level we are not talking about differences between a force in basketball and a team from say Micronesia (i.e. the two teams are more equal than they are unequal). If anything, the Spanish are MUCH more accurate, and better worked as a team. The coach is important in this as well. I think IQ is an important feature in a coach, not just experience. Too bad, we do not have that many coaches in Greece with that higher IQ <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

So now Kazlauskas is too weak for Greek NT? Sure, he might missed some Euroleague or NBA super stars from Greece that would surely help to beat Spain, I suppose <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Unsure' />

You can see there is still a large portion of Yannakis-nostalgists. Some people still believe that he is a professional coach...

Kazlauskas' coaching at EuroBasket 2009 was very questionable. If he does not do a better job this summer then he is not good enough for the standard of Greece's team, just like Giannakis was not good enough. And remember that Kazlauaskas is getting paid 1.2 million euros a year to coach Greece. It's not like he can't be replaced for that amount of money. In fact, they even offered 1.5-2.0 before to Messina.

So unless Kazlauskas does a much better job this summer I am sure he will be out.

Giannakis was not good enough for the national team. But based on last summer, neither is Kazlauskas. The level of Giannakis has nothing to do with whether Kazlauskas is good enough to be the coach or not.

And actually, Kazlauskas is clearly a better coach than Giannakis in offense, however based on the roster selections the last 2 years, Giannakis is a much better judge of talent and is much better at evaluating players than Kazlauskas is. Either that or Kazlauskas is just a lap dog of the federation.

One way or another, Kazlauskas needs to do a much better job this summer. I mean Greece could just hire someone like Bartzokas and IMO he would do a much better job and would cost much less.

Panathinaikos, are you saying that semi-finals of Eurobasket is bad result? BiggrinDDD Just be happy that you aren't lower. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Not that I care too much or think that Kazlauskas is the best coach that Greece could get, but he's not a puppet believe me. He could find a good club, I don't think he would do anything just to make happy Greek federation, he has his opinion. Maybe it's just not the same as yours.

The result was not bad (bronze without Papaloukas and Diamantidis) and they would have won silver IMO if they did not have to tank games to avoid Spain, just because Spain struggled in the group stage..........

But that isn't my point. My point was that Kazlauskas' coaching still wasn't that good. Spanoulis and Sofo carried the team and hardly anything came on coaching. Also, his player selections the last 2 summers now have been highly questionable, to say the least. Greece's offense looks better with him than under Giannakis, but still it does not seem like Kazlauskas is doing that good.

And honestly, he didn't do a good job with China either.

It does not explain selecting 19 year old kids to the senior team.

I dunno, the games that I saw China play under him, they seemed massively improved. I really liked their 2.05 m PG, who was pretty decent for his height. For a country like China with no tradition in the sport of basketball I think Kazlauskas at least succeeded in making them a more serious premiership level National team. The Chinese still have a long way to go until they become a force to be reckoned with, but I think Kazlauskas's work has put them in a better light.

To me China played much better when Del Harris was coaching them.

Any ideas as to when televised Hellas NT friendly games are going to be on TV? I wanna start getting comfortable in front of it <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

Greece NT 2010 - Black Urum - Jul 25, 2010

It should be ERT, as usual.

If not I'll be pissed <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Mellow' />

Greece NT 2010 - forum troll - Jul 28, 2010

I think Kazlauskas should be fired for refusing to allow Papaloukas on the team. Papaloukas can be replaced and he isn't that vital, but Greece would be the clear cut favorite to win gold if he played. Kazlauskas should be fired if Greece fails to win gold now.

Greece NT 2010 - straight forward - Jul 29, 2010

Seems like "fedaration's puppet" has some balls.
