Greece NT 2011 - Black Urum - Feb 3, 2011

I would love to see Svetislav Pesic on the bench...

Greece NT 2011 - TeoTheGreek13 - Feb 5, 2011

Zouros is the new Greece's coach!

I don't know if that was the best choice but he's for sure a very promising Greek coach and I think with a little bit of luck we can do very well... as always!

Greece NT 2011 - Black Urum - Feb 5, 2011

I'm not too satisfied to be honest... I wanted Pesic... but it's better than Giannakis anyway... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

If suricata was naming Kazlauskas as a puppet, how the hell he will call this guy... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Is it official?

Pesic would have been a great coach for Greece and I think that he would have achieved great things with them. But Zouros is a very promising Greek coach and I think he will do just fine

Greece NT 2011 - Black Urum - Feb 5, 2011

It's not official yet.

Greece NT 2011 - Kenneth23 - Feb 7, 2011

Any news on Zouros and Greece?

Greece NT 2011 - suricata - Feb 9, 2011

greece is entering a dark age that will last for at least 6 years

Greece NT 2011 - Kenneth23 - Feb 9, 2011

Greece has great prospects for the future but those guys will need time to develop and become very good players. Hopefully Diamantidis comes back for Greece

Depends. If DD and Papaloukas are surely out than Greece will live the dark age for some time. But as soon as Spanoulis will get some real new friends, Greece will be fine. The question is, how soon these friends will come.

As for real cases, I would bet my money on Linos Chrysikopoulos for the future. Not the expert, but I can't see any other BIG profile prospects in Greece so far.

Greece NT 2011 - ZEUS - Feb 12, 2011

^ I'm hoping on Sloukas, Pappas and Papanikolaou for the future. Out of all the really young noobs, Pap has some eye-opening experience playing for Oly. It's amazing how much Ivkovic believes in him, but at the same time Pap doesn't let him down either <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Greece has got a lot of good young players and they will turn into good players if they get playingtime at their clubs. If they keep developing they will help Greece. I think that Sloukas, Pappas, Papanikolaou and Chrysikopoulos will be very good players in the future. Greece will have a great future

Greece NT 2011 - ZEUS - Feb 15, 2011

Well these young guys have to make a start somewhere. At Belgrade's Eurobasket who would have thought that an awkward-looking team of relatively inexperienced players (Hellas) would have managed to win the gold? There are too many 'circuits' of organized interests that don't allow so many great young players we have from extending their reach into the international level.

Although, sometimes they do deserve it if they have behavioural issues, like Nestoras Kommatos, who had some mad game when he was much younger playing for Aris, but he never made it to play for the Hellas NT, not because he didn't have enough skill, but because he was somewhat of a prick <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Blink' />

Greece NT 2011 - Kenneth23 - Feb 15, 2011

Greece first has to find a good coach and then they can start to " rebuild" the team. Is there any news on Zouros and Greece?

Greece NT 2011 - ZEUS - Feb 16, 2011

Nothing official yet.

Greece NT 2011 - Kenneth23 - Feb 17, 2011

Could it be that Zouros can't be the headcoach of Greece if he still works for Zalgiris?

[/quote]

Don't think it will be a problem.

Greece NT 2011 - Raze Lupin - Mar 4, 2011

So now its official. Talkbasket confirms:

"Zalgiris' coach Elias Zouros has been officially named as new Greece National Team coach.

Taking advantage of the fact that Zouros was in Athens for the past couple of days with Zalgiris (they were playing against Olympiacos in Euroleague Top16 phase) the coach and the Greek Basketball Federation sat down to discuss the final details of their contract before Zouros could put his signature on the deal.

Zouros agreed for two seasons. He will coach Greece in Eurobasket 2011 in Lithuania and London 2012 Olympcs, if the team makes it there. He will remain at the helms of Zalgiris as well."

My question is how do Greek basketball loyalist feel about having him at the helm?
