What more were you hoping for? Besides the slow start, that's the best the US has looked thus far. There is definitely room for improvement but they looked pretty good today.

I'd like to see USA get off to a better start. More improvement on half court sets. Thats about it. Never mind me I'm a malcontent.

Great break down of the game.

Olympic Viewing info:

Now that the US is done with its prep, us American fans should be ready as well with our tv and internet options for the games.

NBC and it's networks will have all the games, but it's a little different this year. There will be a Pure Olympic Basketball channel, now this had me scared until I saw the placeholder for the channel already up for Uverse, you might want to check your own cable provider to double check that. As a positive if you have the channel all the games mens and womens will be broadcast live in HD. Negative knowing NBC it will probably only be available in limited packages.

However there is some great news, NBC will be streaming every game live, so if you've been managing with sportlemon for the last couple months, this should be a step up

With Women's football starting today my Comcast guide has one 24-hour block called "Olympic Soccer." What the hell is this? I imagine that they'll do the same thing for the Basketball channel. I do not understand why they can't break it up into individual games to make it easier to DVR.

Any word whether NBC will replay streams online similar to ESPN 3? It looks like Comcast was going to make you sign into your comcast account to be able to view the NBC streams. That's fine by me as I have a comcast account but I don't like the principle. NBC should just show us commercials and the cable providers can bugger off.

USA NT 2012 - Kenneth23 - Jul 26, 2012

I agree with the things that are said in the article on ESPN. There is indeed still room for improvement for the USA, but also for Spain.

Nobody can argue with the fact that Team USA’s biggest strength is the transition game. There aren't a lot of teams that can run with the USA. In the game against Spain, their shots where falling at the right time. But I think that this could also be a weakness for Team USA.

Like is mentioned in the article, the zone defense could be a big problem for them if their shots aren't falling. What I also have noticed is that they play good if Lebron is playing good. I was glad to see that Melo also played good but he always plays better when they don't depend on him to be the star. Westbrook needs to think about his shot selection. Chandler disappointed me, because he came in foultrouble early in the game. I think that this could also be a problem for team USA. But I agree with you guys, the officials were bad, but USA has get used to the officials because they don't protect them because they are the stars from the NBA. Team USA should also improve their defense on pick-and-roll because when they don't commit on defense they don't score more points

I think we'll see a different Spain in the tournament. Navarro wasn't himself, he made to many turnover( that is something both teams have to work on), Llull didn't play the point so he couldn't create room like he does at Real Madrid, Rudy wasn't 100% and Marc Gasol didn't play because of his shoulder. I think that the bigs from the USA will have bigger problems when Pau, Marc and Ibaka are at their best. Spain also needs to improve their defense, mostly their guards. Calderon isn't a great defender but he has to commit to playing defense or else they won't last against teams like the USA. Calderon and the other guards also need to work on their shotselection. What Spain needs to keep doing is going to their bigs because that's their strenght.

I think that Spain and team USA have learned a lot about their strenghts and weaknesses and now they can work on them. I also think that we'll see to different teams at the Olympics

USA NT 2012 - Raze Lupin - Jul 26, 2012

I agree Kenneth. If Spain and USA meet they will be much better teams.

<img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/good-post.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Good-post' /> These are all great points. LeBron is paramount to Team USA's success and I fully agree with you on Carmelo. I actually quite like him coming off the bench. His explosive ability to score can really rip apart most team's second string.

Also a really good point about Calderon. It is crazy to think but something as simple as Calderon's lack of defensive focus could be the straw that breaks Spain's back.

OFFICIAL FIBA BASKETBALL RULES (fouls)

http://www.fiba.com/downloads/Rules/...lRules2010.pdf

33.11 Contacting an opponent with the hand(s) and/or arm(s)

The touching of an opponent with a hand(s) is, in itself, not necessarily a foul.

The officials shall decide whether the player who caused the contact has gained an

advantage. If contact caused by a player in any way restricts the freedom of

movement of an opponent, such contact is a foul.

Illegal use of the hand(s) or extended arm(s) occurs when the defensive player is in

a guarding position and his hand(s) or arm(s) is placed upon and remains in contact

with an opponent with or without the ball, to impede his progress.

To repeatedly touch or 'jab' an opponent with or without the ball is a foul, as it may

lead to rough play.

It is a foul by an offensive player with the ball to:

 'Hook' or wrap an arm or an elbow around a defensive player in order to obtain

an advantage.

 'Push off' to prevent the defensive player from playing or attempting to play the

ball, or to create more space for himself.

 Use an extended forearm or hand, while dribbling, to prevent an opponent from

gaining control of the ball.

It is a foul by an offensive player without the ball to 'push off' to:

 Get free to receive the ball.

 Prevent the defensive player from playing or attempting to play the ball.

 Create more space for himself.

OFFICIAL FIBA BASKETBALL RULES (fouls)

http://www.fiba.com/....lRules2010.pdf

33.7 Screening: Legal and illegal

Screening is an attempt to delay or prevent an opponent without the ball from

reaching a desired position on the playing court.

Legal screening is when the player who is screening an opponent:

 Was stationary (inside his cylinder) when contact occurs.

 Had both feet on the floor when contact occurs.

Illegal screening is when the player who is screening an opponent:

 Was moving when contact occurred.

 Did not give sufficient distance in setting a screen outside the field of vision of a

stationary opponent when contact occurred.

 Did not respect the elements of time and distance of an opponent in motion

when contact occurred.

Here is how FIBA officials interpret those rules...

"I will blow my whistle whenever I f**king please because these overpaid, famous players need to know that I call the shots around here!"

I cannot recall any FIBA tournament where the officiating was anything other than disasterous.

USA NT 2012 - skangles - Jul 28, 2012

I don't know if anybody is following the women's tournament but Croatia shockingly gave the US a heck of a fight for three quarters today. In the fourth quarter the US moved the ball fantastically and ended up with a big victory.

The US women's team is full of veterans and it is really difficult to pick one over the others. The best known are probably Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Candace Parker and Tamika Catchings. Although Lindsay Whalen has looked great in the run up to the Olympics and Maya Moore is sort of the young "next generation" star.

If I had to pick one player, I'd probably go with Taurasi.

USA NT 2012 - Raze Lupin - Jul 29, 2012

That game was AMAZING! Croat women were balling out of control. The tall black haired girl from Croatia could not be stopped. I didn't watch the 4th quarter but I have it recorded. I'll watch it before the USA men's game today.

First comment, it is so refreshing to hear Doug Collins instead of Fran Fraschilla. Thankfully ABC doesn't have the rights to the Olympics.

Second comment, France isn't going to be able to outrun the US. They need to slow it down to have a chance. Actually, I think that the US matches up better against France than any other team in the Olympics. They are almost identical teams only the US is better at every position.

Third comment, the US has to hit an open shot from the perimeter!

Fourth comment, Kevin Love is in early! Well done coach K!
