Any you guys been to a match... - Ali - Jan 4, 2008

Any you guys ever been to one of the NBA matches? I've heard the atmosphere is amazing. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I'd love to go the next time I'm in New York. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Crazy' />

Afraid not.

Something I would like to do though, watching Orlando Magic <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' />

The atmosphere in NBA arenas is nothing compared to Europe. They do have 20K seat gyms but majority of those who come to see games are just eating popcorns. There is no chanting except that ridicilous "de-fence". I guess if we'd ask who has won the game or what is the score after the game is over many of those "fans" wouldn't know. Maybe I am generalizing too much but this is my opinion. Furthermore the whole NBA is turning to a circus with all those ridicilous rule changes.

Same as above, really. The only reason why I would like to go there is just for visting the country and seeing NBA from the inside.

I was twice (Toronto - Boston in 99/00 and Phoenix - San Antonio in 05/06), and wasn't too impressed. The atmosphere is as stated above. Guys arrive after 8 minutes of play and leave their seats throughout the game to buy hotdogs. There is no organised fan culture. If there are some cheers for the team, it's because the video screen tells them to clap. Biggest roar of the evening is when the home team scores 100 to secure everyone a free pizza.

As for the games, they had their individual highlights of course, but they were slow in player and ball movement. NBA is made for TV. They place their microphones in the right places so that it seems there is a bit of passion in the arena, show the individual highlights over and over again, but watching a game live is just plain and simple dull. There is no intensity.

A lot of diehard European NBA fans would actually be heavily disappointed and desillusionised, would they go over there and watch a game or two.

Exactly. NBA is made for TV and even though the atmosphere on TV looks poor, in reality it is even worse as robbe said. There is no such fan culture in America like in Europe. We can talk a lot about that...

I would like to go, not for the atmosphere, for the players. Ideally I'd like to go see Orlando Magic in the playoffs, been following them for a while now and just to get a chance to se Dwight or possibly J.J Reddick if they decide to give him some burn.

I have, went to Chicago Bulls Vs. New York Knicks.

And yes, the atmosphere was superb, highly recommended. The shows they put on in breaks, and the effort gone into it, highly worth seeing, if possible.

I mean, we sat in the Gods (Right at the back), and still, one of the best nights of my life.

- lakerboichris - Feb 18, 2008

I been to a few

I went to Celtics V T-Wolves in London

Knicks V Cavs 2005

Nets V Heat 2005

Nets V Hawks 2005

Going to these games in March

Knicks V Nets

Knicks V Heat

Nets V Nuggets

Still yet to see the Lakers

- TalkBasket - Feb 18, 2008

And what was your experience?

- lakerboichris - Feb 18, 2008

The nets fans were pretty poor, not much noise and the arena was no where near full. But most of the New Jersey Residents are into hockey. But the games were great and the mascot was very entertaining.

Knicks fans boo their own team lol. I got some bad looks for clapping when the knicks team was introduced lol. But the atmosphere is much better in New York. When it is a close game there is no better place.
