Anwil Wloclawek boss Igor Grischuk is on the verge of becoming Poland's national team coach.
The Belarus-born Grischuk, who spent his entire playing career at Anwil and received Polish citizenship in 1998, is expected to be put in charge of the national team through the 2012 Olympics on the condition he leads the side into next year's EuroBasket.
Polish Basketball Federation president Roman Ludwiczuk said to Sport.pl: "He is ambitious, hungry for success, has experience of European basketball but not as great as, for example, as (former Croatia coach) Jasmin Repesa ..."
Ludwiczuk added that Grischuk "will be perfect for this group of basketball players we have".
Grischuk, 45, became coach Anwil in 2008.
Anwil won 96-89 on Saturday over Black Energa Slupsk and trail Asseco Prokom by just one point in Poland's top flight.
He is expected to sign a contract with the federation next week.
Muli Katzurin coached the Poles at last year's EuroBasket but left the post after the team failed to reach the Quarter-Finals
