PRACTICE REPORT
Date: 11/6/10 Time: 2:49 p.m.
Nenad Krstic was having dinner in Los Angeles on Wednesday when he found out about the earthquake that hit his hometown of Kraljevo, Serbia.
The 5.3 magnitude earthquake had aftershocks that reached a 4.4 magnitude in central Serbia, killing two people and injuring 50. With his mother and sister here in the United States, Krstic said he first called his father back home but couldn't reach him for an hour because the phone lines were down.
'He told me he was fine and my grandparents were fine and all my friends, nobody was hurt seriously but the houses and my apartment were totally destroyed,' Krstic said. 'The furniture, everything, walls, roof, everything was destroyed. We need to repair it. It's not just me. I think 60 percent of the houses and buildings were half destroyed or totally destroyed. It's really bad. My hometown has a lot of poor people living there and they don't have the money. It's a hard thing to have happen over there. I'm really trying to help right now. A lot of people are living on the streets and not just because their houses were destroyed but they were scared to spend the night in the house because they were saying maybe another earthquake was coming.'
The Thunder will be raising funds at Sunday's game vs. Boston to assist with the relief effort in Serbia. The team will be accepting contributions at the game and in the auction area outside Section 111 will be raffling off Krstic's game-worn jersey that he will autograph and personally present to the winner after the game. The Thunder will match any funds that are raised. Here's more info on how you can donate.
It's going to help a lot,' Krstic said. 'Over there people work for $200, $300 a month, so you could imagine how much it's going to help and I really appreciate the support from the Thunder organization and I'm trying to help as well. A lot of people in Serbia, a lot of basketball players and soccer players are trying to help. It's a bad situation. Like I said, people work for $200, $300. They don't have money to repair their houses. So it (fan's assistance) is really appreciated by the team and organization."
So Thunder up! and Go Serbia! Much love from USA! Maybe if the ref don't cheat we will play USA vs Serbia in Olympic final 2012. See you in London. ;-)
