Thanks Theo and Zeus. Your predictions for today's games? FYROM V GEORGIA..An interesting game, and Georgia are no pushovers, despite what people say... 60-40 Georgia.. Russia V Finland.. Russia has too much experience.. Hellas V Slovenia.. Tough to call, if we play our game it's ours, Our transition game is very good, but we need to bury those shots in.. if we don't we'll lose.. 55-45 Hellas..

First of all I want to tell you that I hope you came to stay because many users who register, they are posting a couple of times and then disappear!!!

I think that F.Y.R.O.M., easy or not, will win Georgia and that's because Pachulia will be out.

Russia indeed has too much experience in comparison with Finalnd but I don't think that they really need the experience to overcome Finland's obstacle!! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

As for our game, I think is 50-50 or 55-45 for Slovenia, in my opinion, just because we have a team full of rookies! As you say though, I also believe that if we make the shots we will have very good chances.

Greece and Slovenia have some important similarities.

They play great defense(both teams allow just 64.8 points per game to the opponent, number two in the tournament following only Russia[64.2]), they both shot terribly for threes so far(Slovenia is the worst in the tournament with 26.4% and Greece is second from the end with 27%!!!!!!!--really terrible percentages! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Ohmy' /> ) and also both grab a great amount of rebounds(Greece is number 1 in the Eurobasket with 40.4 rebounds per game and Slovenia is number two with 38!).

To sump up, this game will not be the best for basketball fans... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rofl3' />
I haven't seen any of Georgia's game so I can't say, but it will be a signifcant fact for them that Patchoulia is out of the picture. Still, I prefer a team that achieves results with players from its own country and not from using Americans. I'll see if I can watch that match tomorrow. As for Hellas's game vs. Slovenia I think we can beat Slovenia as long as we have the right psychology, play our usual bone-crushing defence AND ACTUALLY GO TO THE HOLE A WHOLE LOT MORE OFF OF THE FAST BREAK, then I think things will be made much easier. We seem to be shooting from the free throw much, much better in this tournament, but we still need more clout from behind the arc with Bramos and Vasiliadis's shooting. It shouldn't be all down to Fotsis to shoot the three, this is embarassing for our guards who can't shoot better than a forward. If we focus on the things I've just described, no matter what Slovenia does we should defeat them. Where Slovenia has the edge is if the game goes to a pressured few minutes left in the whole game, Slovenia's squad is more experienced than ours, and we have not shown that we can respond well under pressure yet. Our game in Q4 vs. FYROM showed how bad our reaction was when we were significantly behind in the score. We really need to fight after every offensive rebound and grab all our defensive rebounds. We need to capitalize more on converting opponent turnovers into baskets for us.

Ene (Our coach) was not that bad tonight because game was so tight until last 4 minutes of 3rd quarter, devastation came fast that he couldn't respond ( 2 3 pointers in a row from France...)

And last period zone was his call , his set succeeded to find Tunceri for the shot too , yet , we shoot very bad here. So we waste all the effort we give, I am really sorry for tonight because I think this match was the key. We could have seen the final.

France , seems very undisciplined to me and I can't see more than Parker's genius. He is there when and where he is needed. Wonderful player. Without him France is not a threat, (According to me)

Thing is as a Turk I want to defeat or get defeated by 30 points next time , or I'll have an heart attack watching our matches.

[/quote]

1. Ene made good calls too late. If he would have made the zone sooner the 3pts may not have happened. So this is a bad decision by coach. So no one on the coaching staff noticed France weakness. That's bad coaching. On offense in Q3 n Q4 Turkey had exhausted France. Instead of trading 3pts with France,Turkey could have passed the ball inside more. Turkey has 2nd best post players(physical ability) next to Spain BUT does not use them efficiently.

2. France obviously is not as disciplined as say Serbia or Lietuva BUT their team has not played the same system for long. Still they beat Serbia and Turkey finding ways to win. There defense communication is superior to most. Look how many turnovers they have forced out of opponents. France has decent amount of discipline especially on defense.France is undefeated and has beat two quality opponents back to back in close games....That is mental toughness

In America we have a saying offense wins games DEFENSE wins championships.
^ and we have the best defense in the tournament so far <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rofl3' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' />

Huge day for the Highlander! He was on fire. I wasn't sure that he could cut it on the international level after sub-par performances in the past but it appears he will be running the point for Lithuania for years to come.

Valanciunas is perhaps my favorite player. He needs to bulk up and get less predictable about his attack to the basket but he is going to be an excellent player in the NBA. His intensity is unrivaled.

I counted 7 fouls against Teodosic today. He had 3 fouls then picked up the technical from the bench (officially his fourth but it doesn't count against his total), then picked up his fourth foul and then picked up his fourth foul again before finally fouling out. What the hell happened there? Did they decide to change his first fourth foul (the one after the technical)?

Lithuania is currently third in the group. They either need to stay there or move up to first but a second or fourth place finish would be devastating, namely because I have tickets to the Sept. 14th Quarter finals <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Jonas was amazing!! Serbia looked lost their composure big time. Teo has mental problems like Ron Artest. He could not do that in NBA for long without consequences. Watching international sports I find we Americans are uptight about our athletes. In USA Teo would be branded a thug....

1- Yes if he had prefered zone a bit earlier maybe we could have won , maybe his ego stopped him maybe he wanted to use it as a game winner before he unexpected Parker initiative, I don't know really. I defend him not because he is our coach but because I know him from the days he was playing profesional basketball. He was a very smart PG and his basketball culture was quite developped. I think we should give him some time , we had bad days with Tanjevic too but I believe constancy is important. Turks are very agile to replace coaches when something gone bad. He must be supported . (These I'm saying are not about your point but Ene is started to be debated here in Turkey by the fans -sickos-)

2- Well their defensive play depends on their athletic abilities and pace, they force opponents to turn over that's for sure. But I still think it is Parker makes the difference. We could have defeat them if only we could shoot a little better or we had Tunceri in a better mental status (he seems so reluctant which is definitely not him indeed, he is a couragous player with enthuasism).

I think France will suffer a defeat against Gasol brothers, if we can outrebound them Spain can too and spain forwards are better shooters, besides France will be underdogs in their minds too. I don't know what to say about Lithuania, they were way too good according to the first round. Maybe Vilnius' environment was much better for them. I was mistaken.

Ultimately Turkey and Serbia will play a final for 4th place now , and I don't think 2. games will be important for both. Mentally , it is disturbing.
If he made the zone earlier then he would be outrebounded too... it's a double edge knife... when he turned to zone, France grabbed some easy offensive rebounds in last possessions.

1. Yes I agree the coach needs to be given a chance.

2. True they are athletic defenders. Still there is a difference between being athletic and using the ability intelligently. France plays smart defense. Very smart defense actually... I agree France is weak inside to Turkey, Spain and maybe Lietuva, Russia. Everyone else they have beat.

3.Who do you think will win between Serbia and Turkey? I know serbs want revenge!

It is up to Teodosic, if he plays like Lithuania match I believe we can disturb Kristic enough to win the game. If he plays well (especially at managing the team), we have no chance.
