Quote:NBL: NBA veteran Steve Blake signs with Sydney Kings as import player

THE Sydney Kings have signed 13-year NBA veteran, Steve Blake, sources told foxsports.com.au.

The introduction of Blake comes just a few days after the team released import, Michael Bryson, who struggled to make an impact in his short stint with the Kings.

Blake, 36, will fill the Kings’ third import spot, providing a steady point guard presence for a team that sits atop the NBL ladder with a 3-1 record.

After winning the 2002 NCAA Championship with Maryland, Blake was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 38th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

Over his 13-year NBA career, Blake has been a member of eight different teams, including the Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, along with three different stints with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Blake has posted career averages of 6.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game, and was holding out for another season in the NBA, before signing with the Kings in the NBL.

The 6’3 (1.91m) point guard scrimmaged with the Portland Trail Blazers before training camp began, and was even open to taking a coaching job.

Blake is expected to arrive in Sydney within the week, which means he’ll likely miss the Kings’ Monday night game against the Illawarra Hawks.
