Quote:FIBA Europe announced on Thursday that five Federations have applied to organise EuroBasket 2017.

Finland, Israel, Poland, Romania and Turkey have all confirmed an official bid before the 2 November deadline.

The bidding process for EuroBasket 2017 was opened on 1 October.

As it was the case with EuroBasket 2015 there are three hosting options available: organise the whole event, one Group Phase group or a Group Phase group and the Final Phase.

Evaluation commissions will visit all candidate venues in the month of November and submit their report to the FIBA Europe Board, which will discuss and decide the hosts at its next session on 12 December 2015.

Quote:Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey named as EuroBasket 2017 hosts

Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey were confirmed as the host nations of FIBA EuroBasket 2017 in an announcement ceremony in Munich, Germany on Saturday afternoon.

Following on from the unprecedented success of EuroBasket 2015, which for the first time in the history of the competition was hosted by multiple countries, the FIBA Europe Board opted to follow the same path for the 2017 edition of Europe’s premier basketball competition.

Turkey will host a Group Phase group, as well as the Final Phase, continuing a proud recent tradition of hosting FIBA basketball competitions, which has in recent years included the 2010 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women. Turkey has previously hosted EuroBasket in 1959 and 2001.

Turkey will host both their Group Phase group and the Final Phase in Istanbul in Abdi Ipekci Arena and Sinan Erdem Arena respectively. Sinan Erdem Arena was the scene for the 2010 FIBA Basketball World Cup Final Round.
Finland last hosted EuroBasket in 1967, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their nation’s independence. Helsinki will once more host a Group Phase group, on the occasion of their 100th anniversary.

The announcement was particularly exciting for both Israel and Romania, with 2017 set to mark the first time they will play a role in hosting EuroBasket Group Phase groups in Tel Aviv and Cluj-Napoca respectively. Israel have previously tasted success in the event, taking home the silver medal in 1979. Romania have recent experience in hosting premier basketball events, having been a co-host of EuroBasket Women 2015.

Each hosting country has the right to choose a partner country i.e. a country that they want to have in their group. Finland chose Iceland, which was to be expected after EuroBasket 2015. It should be announced officially that Israel chose Lithuania.

Who do you think Romania and Turkey will choose as their partners? Greece for Turkey and Italy for Romania? Smile
Im linking to agree that Greece and Italy will be selected as partners because of business interest if you know what i mean Smile
It's official:

Quote:Israel agree to partnership with Lithuania

KAUNAS (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) – FIBA EuroBasket 2017 co-hosts Israel have selected Lithuania as their partner federation, making the announcement in a joint press conference on Friday.

The press conference took place in Kaunas, Lithuania, the host city of the EuroBasket 2011 Final Round, and was attended by representatives from both nations, including amongst others the Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania, Amir Maimon; Israel Basketball Federation President Amiram Halevy and his Lithuanian opposite, Arvydas Sabonis; and Israel national team general manager Pini Gershon.

Halevy expressed: "Israel is a small country which has a great love for basketball, as well as admiration and respect to Lithuania and mainly its basketball fans, who are known as some of the best, not only in Europe, but in the world."

"When we were granted the privilege of hosting one of the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Group Phase groups, we approached the Lithuanian Federation to be the partner country in Tel Aviv.

"We invite the Lithuanian basketball fans to visit Tel Aviv with the national team. Besides enjoying great basketball, our visitors will have the opportunity to become acquainted with a country which might seem far away, but is less than a four-hour flight.

"I have no doubt that the reception in Tel Aviv and the plans for hospitality will allow all those who arrive a special, warm and unforgettable experience."

"To begin with, I would like to express my joy, that the Lithuania national men's basketball team is going to play the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Group Phase games in Israel," stated Sabonis. "It is a big recognition for the team and its fans. The fans will have perfect conditions to watch basketball, as well as spend their free time on the seacoast, enjoying good weather and local food.

"It is a perfect combination for basketball and holidays. We would like to express gratitude to Israel's basketball association for giving us this opportunity. We believe that with the help of basketball, our two nations will have a stronger connection.

"We feel strong support and hospitality from Israel’s basketball association as well as the embassy of Israel in Lithuania. We are truly happy about that."

"Lithuania has one of the strongest basketball traditions in Europe," commented FIBA Executive Director Kamil Novak, continuing: "That strong tradition is not only on the court, but also off it, reflected in the sea of green that follows Lithuania wherever they play.

"I expect this to be no different in Tel Aviv in 2017 and I am already looking forward to hearing the beat of the Lithuanian drums in Tel Aviv Arena.

"This is of course equally exciting news for Israel. Coming off a strong performance in France last year, they will be expecting even better results this time around when they host this prestigious event for the first time in their country."

The partnership marks the second to be made prior to FIBA EuroBasket 2017, which will take place from 31 August to 17 September next year. Finland have already welcomed Iceland as their partner, whilst the remaining two hosts, Romania and Turkey, are expected to make their announcement prior to the draw which will take place in Istanbul on 22 November.

Romania chose Hungary as a partner federation after all.
Quote:Turkey reach partnership agreement with Russia

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) – With exactly one week to go until the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Draw, Final Round hosts Turkey have announced Russia as their partner federation.

The announcement, coming on Tuesday, means that all four FIBA EuroBasket 2017 host countries have selected their partnering federations. The other three partnerships bring together Finland and Iceland; Israel and Lithuania; and Romania and Hungary.

The partnership concept was developed for EuroBasket 2015 with a strong emphasis on assisting in ticket sales. The host federation partners are guaranteed to be drawn into the same group as their hosts at next Tuesday's Draw.

Newly-elected Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Turkoglu was delighted to have come to the agreement with Russia.

"First of all, I would like to thank the Russian Basketball Federation for sharing this honour with us. Both of the federations have been hoping to become partners for the huge competition that is FIBA EuroBasket 2017.

"We are extremely happy to have created a platform for the sports fans of the two nations where basketball lovers can experience unique basketball jubilation.

"We are inviting Russian basketball fans to experience the unique beauty of Istanbul alongside seeing the exciting games. Likewise, we fully believe that the enthusiastic Turkish audience would fill the games if they were being played in Russia."

Russian Basketball Federation President Andrei Kirilenko shared similar sentiments to those of Turkoglu.

"It is of no surprise that we have this agreement with the Turkish Basketball Federation. Our nations are closely linked. I have no doubt that FIBA EuroBasket 2017 in Istanbul will be organised at the highest possible level.

"Turkey pays great attention to the development and promotion of sports in general, as well as to the organisation of major international competitions such as the 2010 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

"I'm very pleased that our teams will be drawn in the same group as all our games in the past have always been played in a competitive manner and have attracted plenty of fans. I'm confident that we will have great support from our fans throughout our participation."

FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak made reference to the strong basketball traditions of the two nations. "This sets a wonderful precedent to see two federations, who in recent history have regularly been amongst the strongest teams at FIBA EuroBasket, coming together.

"With this announcement, we complete the process of agreeing on partner federations and I am sure that all four of our host federations will benefit greatly from the partnerships they have created."

The FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Draw will take place in Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul on 22 November, beginning at 15:00 CET.

Quote:Spain and Lithuania learn fate as long-winding EuroBasket 2017 draw takes place

Eurobasket champions Spain have a favourable draw as they travel to Romania to open their 2017 campaign in Cluj-Napoca.

The 2015 winners will face Croatia, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Hungary and hosts Romania in Group C. Eurobasket runners-up Lithuania will be housed in Tel Aviv, where they are drawn with the hosts Israel, Ukraine, Georgia, Italy and Germany.

Group D, which takes place at the Ulker Sports Arena on the Asian side of Istanbul looks to be the toughest pool of the four as Turkey hosts Great Britain, Russia, Serbia, Latvia and Belgium.

“It’s going to be a very tough group but I’m excited,” said GB guard Andrew Lawrence via Facebook Live. “The draw is tough. Group D is probably one we didn’t want to be in. It’s very tough teams in that group but we look forward to it because we’ll be playing against top teams.

“It’s going to be hard to get out of it with teams like Turkey, Russia, Serbia, Belgium and Latvia – all very strong teams with very good domestic leagues and guys who play in the NBA or at Euroleague level or around Europe at very good clubs. it will be a very tough competition but it’s something we look forward to. Playing against the best brings out the best in you.”

The draw comes after a lengthy and at times unnecessary build up which included strange dance routines and the unveiling of the tournament mascot called ‘Sam Dunk’, whose ultimate dream is become a basketball player and has rocket boots so that he can jump high enough to compete with the world’s best players.

The draw eventually took place an hour after the ceremony took place in Istanbul.

Group A and B will tip-off action on Thursday, August 31 with Group C and D starting a day later. The group phase will conclude on September 7, at which stage the top four teams from each group advance to Istanbul for the final round.

The tournament will conclude with the final, to be played in Sinan Erdem Arena on 17 September.
