Take Note: one of the most talented International players in the Basketball World.

His name is Shawn Redhage and he plays for the perth wildcats of the NBL, Australias top division of Pro basketball. Shawn is a Import in Australia. He attended Arizona State from 1999-2003 as a 4 man on the Sun Devils. He was born in Jacksonville Florida and then his family reallocated to the plains of Lincoln Nebraska early on in his life. When he moved to Nebraska, this is where his Basketball career began. He played four years at lincoln's east hs where he displayed his surplus of versatility as a 6'9 Big. He finished his career as his schools all-time leader in rebounds, assists and blocks. He finished as second on the all-time for points racking up 1.126. He was ackknowledged as a top 100 prep player by Bob Gibbons and others. Other accolades include Nebraska Mr. Basketball, Nrbraska Prep athlete of the Year and honorable mention Street and smiths all-american. Aside from basketball shawn also was an accomplished prep soccer player(steve nash affect) leading his team to the State soccer championship as a three year letter winner. Soccer takes stamina and field vision and he accredits soccer as being a help to his Basketball game wher you need court vision and stamina. As a senior he decided to make the second move of his life and commited to Arizona State in 1999.

To the desert. Shawn became a solid player in his first year in tempe. Posted double-digits 14 times in a asu record 28 starts. as a freshmen he averaged 8ppg(52%fg),4rpg, 2.3apg and a total of 26 blocks. As his career progressed his minutes per game degressed. This happened in part because he was overshadowed by the likes of now NBA'ers Eddie House, Tommy Smith, Ike Diogu. Despite his limited production shawn capitalized on any opportunities given him. He garnered all-tournament team twice in his 4 year career those tourneys being the NABC Classic, azcentral.com holiday classic. His nickname was given to him by Eddie house in 1999------"Charlie Hustle"---- . He fit this name because of his relentless hustle on the court and athletic plays he would make, on both ends. Despite being a good hustling big man he is not in the category of players that are hyper active like taj Gray, Dennis Rodman and Renaldo Balkman who rely on energy alone to get them by. But he does know how to turn it on when needed and is best at taking what the defense gives him. Over his four year career his accumulated averages were 8ppg(50%FG--40%3pt), 4rpg, 3apg and was ninth on ASU's all-time block list.

Side note-

Athleticism ran in his family. His brother jeff was a Defensive lineman at Kansas and his other brother chris, played soccer at richmond.

Continuing on...

In his sr season he performed what is to this day on of the greatest bench performances by any one to ever play in the NCAA. In an ot victory over the washington huskies at seattle shawn had a career high 29 points on 8-11 shooting 2-2 from range and hit 11 free throws as a product of him attacking the rim and pulled down 8 rebs to go with 6 assists. To cap that off he blocked a game winning three point attempt by now NBA slam dunk champ, Nate Robinson. On that night I think he could have hit a shot from the near by cascade mountains. Did i mention that this was the first game he had been given over 30 minutes of action proving that when given the opportunity he would absolutely capitalize and some more. This is just one of the many prototypes for Shawns Game. On two different occasions he scored 19 points in 20 minutes and then 16points in 15 minutes showing off his quick productivity in short spurts of time.

In between his jr and sr year he took a trip to Spain with a 16 player Athletes in action team. In my opinion adaptability is one of the most important attributes to attain in the NBA because night in and out teams and players must adapt to the road, matchups and injuries along with other elements. In this trip Shawn displayed his ability to adapt to new elements. After 25 hours of travelling on airplanes and layovers Shawn scored 26points pulled down 15 rebs dished out nine assists and this was in a game outdoors, under the lights against a spainish pro team. Not too awfull. Even if the play wasn't NBA level it was pro and it was in a totally different atmosphere but, Shawn adapted like any excellent player would and was successful. Again this was only one of the many cases were shawn displayed greatness.

If you look at his career highs on his ASU player Bio page you will quickly notice that all of his career highs came against top 25 ranked opponents. All shawn redhage does is rise to the occasion and commits to every possesion. To compliment that good basis he has tremendous footwork, shooting touch and athleticism. He has a mid range game, a long range game and an interior game. Doesn't that cover every game to sum him up he has an all-around game. The great MJ once said if you can hit any thing from 17 feet in, it helps. And Shawn can do more than that he can shoot the three to the tune of a 40% tack and he can block shots if needed. Shawn also had the best 4 yr FT percentage at ASU of all-time shooting 79% over 4 yrs. Shawn not only plays well himself but, he maximizes the stabilities of his teammates and minimizes their instabilities. As for his weaknesses he needs to work on strength and recognition(getting his name to the media). He can handle the ball like a point guard and has done so before bringing the ball up the floor on various occasions.

Folowing his college career he still had the burning desire to play basketball, now professionally. He had been recruited by a pro league in Australia called the NBL. He now plays there with the Perth wildcats and was an all-star in 05-06 averaging 20ppg 10rpg 3apg and was second in the NBL's MVP voting only to former NBA star Chris Anstey. He shutdown one of the most recognizable aussies during the NBL season his name, Brad Newley. "Newls" as they call him is on your mock draft for 2007 and was even on this yrs. Shawn held Brad to season lows and scored well on him on a few occasions. We will put it in baseball terms and say "He swept the series!". Shawn's performance defensively on Newls was Bruce Bowenesque. Shawn did well off the ball and made athletic plays that stats can't record but, because of a 3 yr age separation Shawn does not have a profile on draftexpress. Shawn is better than Brad will be in 3 years and deserves a crack at an NBA Contract or at least a summer league spot. When he first came to australia shawn played in the ABA and won a Championship in the minor league that Andrew Bogut was in the year before Shawn arrived. In this league shawn averaged more than anybody since 1995 with averages of 35ppg 16rpg and 4apg as a 6'9 4 man. In the championship game shawn scored 47 points pulled down 12 rebounds dished out 8 assists and led his team to a trophy presentation in there favor. This was in the same league Bogut played in and others in the past such as Luc Longley. Now he plays with the perth wildcats of the NBL and is the best player in the league in front of Brad Newley and Chris Anstey. Look him up.
