Quote:Ramunas Butautas of Lithuania didn't need to watch a draw to decide what his team's aspirations are heading into the Beijing Games.
The coach of the Baltic giants is just like everyone in that basketball-mad country.
He is optimistic, and he expects to win every time his team runs onto the floor.
"If we go to fight for the medals, we need to beat everyone," Butautas said to the Lietuvos Rytas daily.
Lithuania were on Saturday drawn in Group A with defending champions Argentina, 2007 EuroBasket winners Russia, last year's Asia winners Iran and Oceania giants Australia.
Butautas and Co avoided the United States in the preliminary round.
"It would be great to face the USA as late as possible," he said. "We are not scared of them, but I think they will be the biggest rivals for the gold."
First things first - Lithuania have some games to win against very good opponents in Group A.
"Our rivals in the first round group are strong," he said.
"First, we have to mention Russia and Argentina, but we respect every opponent and will prepare for each one of them 100%."
Russia upset Lithuania in the semi-finals of last year's EuroBasket and then stunned Spain to win gold.
Lithuania beat Greece in the bronze medal game to reach Beijing.
The Lithuanians have reached the semi-finals in each and every Olympic tournament that has taken place since breaking away from the former Soviet Union.
Their most famous attempt at Olympic glory was made at the 2000 Games in Sydney when they almost upset the United States in the semi-finals.
Last-minute mistakes by the Baltic team and a missed shot by Sarunas Jasikevicius at the buzzer prevented the Lithuanians from a shocking upset of the Americans.
The Lithuanians have been on the podium before, though.
They captured bronze medals in 1992, 1996 and 2000, while in their most recent attempt to snatch gold in Athens, they ended up with nothing after falling to the US 104-96 in the battle for third place.
"I am neither scared, nor happy," said Lithuania center Robertas Javtokas after the draw.
"What's most important is what team will we have and how strong the other teams will be. We have plenty of time for our preparations and to play friendly games.
"I don't really care who we will face, even if it's Argentina who won four years ago."
