Quote:Former NBA star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's career seems to have no end as the 40-year-old signed for Kyoto Hannaryz. The transfer of the guard to the Japanese second division (BJ-League) is regarded as the biggest so far in the championship in terms of player popularity and reputation.

Known for his scoring abilities, Abdul-Rauf started his career in NCAA's Louisiana State University, moving afterwards to the NBA where he spent nine years (Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings, Vancouver Grizzlies). He then made a name outside the US by joining teams from various leagues such as Fenerbahce (Turkey), Ural Great (Russia), Roseto (Italy), Aris (Greece) and Al Ittihad (Saudi Arabia).

Kyoto Hannaryz is a new expansion team of the BJ-League and will compete directly against neighbouring clubs Shiga and Osaka. Games are to tip off in early October.
