Barcelona is not able to pay Pau Gasol, according to club’s president Josep María Bartomeu. The Barca executive denied the reports the club was in advanced talks with Gasol.
In his latest interview on Barca TV, he ruled out the possibility of signing the NBA and Spain legend this offseason.
“He is a person who has helped us a lot, he is an ambassador for Barcelona and represents us in the United States. He is a star of the NBA and Barça could hardly pay what he would cost to the club,” he said according to Spanish newspaper AS, as rendered by Eurohoops.
Gasol, 40, hasn’t played for almost 1.5 years, as he had undergone surgery twice for a navicular stress fracture in his left foot.
The Hall-of-Famer will obviously want to be active this season in order to conclude his career in the Tokyo Olympic Games next summer.
