LeBron James recalls saving Carmelo Anthony from potentially drowning

LeBron could probably moonlight as a lifeguard.

Back in March, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade shared a laugh over how LeBron James had to step in and save Carmelo Anthony from potentially drowning while on vacation in the Bahamas several years ago.

With LeBron’s Lakers set to meet Anthony’s Trail Blazers in the first round of the NBA playoffs on Tuesday, the three-time champion recalled his role in getting his good friend to safety after he got separated from a group also consisting of Chris Paul.

“I just knew that he was not back in the boat with the rest of us, so I went out looking for him,” James said on a video conference call on Monday, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “And through the grace of God and through strength and not being afraid of the water, I was able to help him back to the boat. It was the only thing that was on my mind at that point and time, was getting my brother back to the boat.”

“I look up, the current is taking me in the middle of the ocean,” Anthony recounted during his Instagram Live Chat with Wade earlier this year. “Like, opposite from the boat.

“And it was windy. All type of s–t was going on in my head, I’m going to be honest with you.”

“LeBron, I appreciate that,” Melo added. “You saved my life that day.”

Thankfully LeBron was able help Carmelo back to safety before things took a turn for the worse. We’re also pretty sure he won’t regret it no matter how the series turns out for the Lakers.
