An already-legendary point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius decided to end his playing career and will open a new chapter by joining Zalgiris coaching staff.

LNK news reported that Saras reached a verbal agreement with Zalgiris. He is set to take charge of Zalgiris’s training sessions in two weeks when preparations for the coming season begin.

Head coach Gintaras Krapikas is currently with Lithuanian national team so Jasikevicius will take his duties until FIBA World Cup is over.

Sarunas Jasikevicius is one of the most successful European players having won Euroleague four times with three different teams, not even counting number of domestic titles.

He has also enjoyed success with his favourite team – Lithuanian national team – winning Bronze in 2000 Olympics, Gold in EuroBasket 2003, also being named MVP of the tournament, Bronze in EuroBasket 2007.

His passing skills and court vision was unparalleled. In Lithuania Jasikevicius set a new standard of what a great point guard is. The gap left by his retirement is unlikely to be equally fileld any time soon.

During his career Saras played for Lietuvos rytas, Olimpija, Barcelona, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Panathinaikos, Fenerbahce Ulker and finally finished his career with Zalgiris in his native Kaunas.

On his last season as a player Jasikevicius added his first LKL title with Zalgiris to an already large amount of trophies won in his career.

Labelled as having all it takes to become a great coach, Saras will start a new chapter in his basketball career, this time as a coach.
