Donovan Mitchell put on a show against the Denver Nuggets but it wasn’t enough as his Utah Jazz lost 135-125 in overtime in Game 1.

Mitchell finished with 57 points to set a new playoff scoring record for Utah. The previous high was 50 by Karl Malone in 2000.

In addition to his 57 points, Mitchell also had nine rebounds and seven assists. He shot 19-33 from the field, including 6-15 on 3-pointers. He also hit all 13 of his free throw attempts.

Mitchell only had 2 points in the first quarter, but it was brilliant afterwards, including scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter to force an overtime. However, in overtime he and the Jazz struggled with turnovers, which allowed the Nuggets to go on an 11-2 run.

For Utah to comeback in the series, they will need Mitchell to stay hot and he’ll need more help from his teammates. No one else on Utah scored 20 points in Game 1.

Game 2 of the series will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
