Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown says Matisse Thybulle will have a significant role defensively. The Sixers lost their matchup advantage in the series when Ben Simmons went out with a knee injury before the playoffs. Increasing Thybulle’s role will help quell the loss.

Ben Simmons led the league in steals this season. The Sixers need a way to create turnovers in this series and dominate. A first-round loss will put the franchise in a flux. What will happen to Simmons, Joel Embiid and Brown? These playoffs will mean a lot to the makeup of the team’s future.

Matisse Thybulle said about the opportunity:

“For me it’s exciting, because I think that means that I’ve earned a certain level of trust from my teammates and from the coaching staff,” Thybulle said. “As everyone hypes up the playoffs, if they trust me enough in the playoffs to do my job and my role — what I’ve been trying to prove for this whole season — I think it’s exciting, because I think my work has paid off. And now it’s really time to showcase everything that we’ve been preparing for.”

Thybulle will be an integral part of these playoffs because of the need for wing defenders. Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward are going to cause problems for the Sixers all series. With the loss of Ben Simmons, the Sixers will need the rising star Matisse Thybulle to step up.
