Doc Rivers on Montrezl Harrell: “The challenge will be just how ready he is”

Doc Rivers opened up about Montrezl Harrell and whether he will play in Game 1 of the NBA playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks.

The big man of the Los Angeles Clippers is expected to play, after clearing his seven-day quarantine. However, Rivers is concerned about how ready his player will be.

“I’m just gonna throw him in there as you know. He’s earned that right. The challenge will be just how ready he is. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a guy who hasn’t played in 8 games or whatever, hasn’t had any practice, and we’re just gonna throw him out on the floor in a playoff game.

And we’re hoping that at this point. There’s no guarantee that will even happen, so we’ll see. We have an idea (about when he will return), but it’s not ideal. Let me put it that way,” Rivers told Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.

Harrell left the “bubble” on July 17th due to an urgent family matter. He returned to the “bubble” on August 9th and has been in quarantine since then.

Harrell has been averaging a career high 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds for the Clippers this season. He is a candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award along with Lou Williams and Dennis Schroder.
