Tyler Herro records 1st Career 30-point game as Heat lose to Thunder

A huge milestone for the first-year man.

Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro put up his first 30-point night in the NBA but failed to come up with the winner against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, with the Heat bench giving up a huge lead in the fourth quarter to lose 115-116.

The Heat had the game well under control heading into the quarter but head coach Erik Spoelstra opted to rest his starters and let his bench play out the entire final period. The Thunder slowly chipped away at the lead and Mike Muscala would sink a pair of triples to give OKC a one-point lead with just over five seconds to go.

Herro, who shot 9/16 and a perfect 9/9 at the free throw line, got the ball in his hands for the final play, but his long-range shot fell short, as the Thunder would go on to claim the win.

The game hardly meant anything to Miami, who will be facing the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs. The only thing left to be decided is whether they’ll go in as the fourth or fifth seed, which also doesn’t matter as there’s no home-court advantage in the bubble.

The Heat will play their final seeding game on Friday against the Pacers and it’s likely that Spoelstra will treat this one as a scrimmage given that seeding in the Eastern Conference is all sewn up. OKC’s win means they get to face the Houston Rockets in a 4-5 matchup out West (so to speak).
