Blake Griffin will not be playing for United States in this year’s FIBA World Cup in Spain.

Los Angeles Clippers forward decided to concentrate on preparation for the upcoming NBA season instead.

“I appreciate the invitation to play for Team USA this summer,” Griffin said. “It is a special opportunity anytime you have a chance to represent your country, and I was honored to be included. However, right now I want to focus and dedicate 100 percent of my energy on improving and preparing for the upcoming season with the Clippers.”

Last time Griffin was prepared to suit up for his country in 2012 at Olympics in London but was ruled out a meniscus tear in his left knee that required arthroscopic surgery and sidelined him for two months.

Reigning World Champions USA will start the tournament in Group C alongside Dominican Republic, Turkey, Finland, New Zealand and Ukraine.
