Greek champ Panathinaikos Athens announced on Tuesday the addition of guard DeMarcus Nelson to a one-year deal with an option for another. Nelson (1.93 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade, where last season he was a full-time starter with the team in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season, averaging 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 10 games. The team went on to play in the Eurocup where Nelson started in 12 games to average 13.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals leading Zvezda into the semifinals. Nelson spent two seasons in Crvena Zvezda. Before that, he had played college ball in Duke from 2004 to 2008 and in 2009 he already had his first European experience playing in Croatia. He has also played in Italy, France and Ukraine before joining Zvezda. This will be his third Euroleague appearance after last season and 2010-11 with Cholet Basket of France.
