The Philadelphia 76ers play in their first scrimmage today against the Memphis Grizzlies today. The Sixers look to finally make it to the Eastern Conference Finals after two years of missed attempts. In preparation 76ers head coach Brett Brown has decided to throw different looks at Joel Embiid in practice.

Embiid had another All-Star season where he averaged 23.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. While he has been everything for the Sixers the team has not been able to get over the hump. With the time off Embiid has been able to get into great shape and that has led to Brown challenging Embiid in practice.

According to Tom West of Liberty Ballers Brett Brown has been sending a lot of doubles at Embiid and trying to catch him off guard with a lot of different defensive coverages. Brown said Embiid is “passing the heck out of it” in those situations.

The Sixers will only go as far as Embiid goes. Last year there were moments where he was not there for the team and it didn’t seem like he was all the way locked in. This time around it looks like he is more committed.
