The Lakers acquired Wilt Chamberlain from 76ers in exchange for Darrell Imhoff, Archie Clark, Jerry Chambers and and cash.

Chamberlain spent five dominant seasons with Los Angeles. He led the NBA in rebounds in four of those seasons and field goal percentage in three of those seasons.

Chamberlain averaged 14.7 points and 21 rebounds per game in the 1972 postseason, helping the Lakers defeat the Knicks in the NBA Finals. He was named Finals MVP.

A few years after Chamberlain’s retirement in 1973, the Lakers traded for another legendary center, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar went on to win five titles with Los Angeles.

It’s safe to say both trades worked out very well for the Lakers. Both players now have their jersey numbers retired by Los Angeles.
