Philadelphia 76ers great Allen Iverson sat down with legendary Sixers announcer Marc Zumoff for an exclusive interview. Iverson reflected on his life and realizes that now his role is to inspire the youth.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016. Also, he made the All-Star team 11 times and was a four-time scoring champion. Iverson was able to singlehandedly will the 76ers to the Finals in 2001 in an epic playoff run and he won the MVP award that same year. Iverson said he is grateful to be in the position that he is now.
“I’m still like when I was younger, in my 20s,” he said. “Like, I got a birthday coming up, and I get excited about it. … I know so many people that didn’t make it to this age or nowhere near it, so it’s a big deal to me. I love it.”
The younger 76ers players look up to Iverson just like Iverson looked up to Julius Erving. Iverson famously wore Erving’s number 6 in the 2002 All-Star game that was in Philadelphia. Embiid honored Iverson’s famous Soul on Ice SLAM cover with a remake. Inspiring the new generation is a part of retirement that Iverson enjoys.
“Now I know how those people in the crowd felt when I had my hand on my ear and all that,” he said. “I’m those people in the stands now, and I love it. I get a big kick out of it. When Joel (Embiid) is doing all that and I’m at the game, I feel just like those other fans that are sitting in the seats.”
