New Orleans Pelicans head coach says he sees no reason Zion Williamson shouldn’t pick up right where he left off when the NBA resumes in Orlando, Florida, in July.

The former Duke star has had a troubling rookie season, to say the least, having missed a huge chunk due to injury before returning to see the campaign get stopped in its tracks right when he was really getting back into the groove of playing.

Gentry, who spoke to The Athletic’s William Guillory this week, revealed the player has been working extremely hard amid the lockdown and will “get himself right” for the restart.

He said:

“I’ve seen him a lot and we’ve talked a lot about things we expect him to do when everyone is back. I think he’s worked extremely hard during the time away. I think, to some degree, you’ll see everybody a little rusty when we come back because we’ve been away for so long. But he’ll get himself right, and I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t pick up right where he left off.”

The NBA and NBPA have finalized plans for basketball to resume in Orlando at the end of July, with a schedule released last week.

The Pelicans are currently 10th in the Western Conference and have a chance to qualify for the playoffs via a play-in. Zion Williamson will need to be at his very best if they’re to secure a berth.
