Dallas Mavericks will be aiming to lock their place in the playoffs when the NBA season resumes in Orlando. According to former Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson, the team could potentially sneak into the NBA Finals, having one of the best 1-2 punches in the entire league in Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.

Johnson made a point on CBS Sports that Dallas is in the middle in terms of schedule difficulty. “They’re playing four teams that are currently not in the playoffs. They’re playing the Phoenix Suns twice. I’m really interested and looking forward to seeing the Dallas Mavericks,” he said. “Outside of LeBron James they have a guy in Luka Doncic that’s just a walking triple-double. He averages 28 points, 9 rebounds and 8.5 assists. He’s just so much fun to watch. He’s gonna be in the playoffs for the first time in his career.

And then with Kristaps Porzingis who’s the Robin to the Batman in Luka Doncic. There’s one of the best 1-2 punches in all of basketball. You put those guys in seven game series. They’re a team that can potentially sneak into the Finals.”

This season Doncic is averaging 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. Meanwhile, Porzingis is adding 19.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Dallas is currently sitting in seventh place in the Western Conference with 40 wins and 27 losses. They will be fighting for the last two open playoff spots in the West. It should not be a difficult task as they have an 8-win advantage over the eight-placed Memphis Grizzlies.
