The new general manager of the Detroit Pistons Troy Weaver sees Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin as a part of the team’s future.
The Pistons are about to start their rebuild, but Weaver believes the two veteran stars can be “the two staples” of their rebuilding project.
Per ESPN’s Eric Woodyard:
“We’re excited to get them healthy and help them move forward,” Weaver said of the two veteran All-Stars. “We feel like we have a good mixture of young guys with those two staples to be able to start there, but obviously we’ve got a lot of work to do with the draft and free agency.”
Blake Griffin participate in 18 games this season, before the left knee surgery that made him miss the rest of the 2019-2020 season. Griffin is due $36.6 million in 2020-21, and has a player option for the 2021-22 season which, if exercised, will turn him a profit of $38.9 million.
On the other hand, Rose continued his resurgence to stardom this season averaging 18.1 points and 5.6 assists on 26 minutes per contest in the 50 games he played with Detroit this season.
