Portland Trail Blazers forward Trevor Ariza is opting out of participation in the NBA’s return-to-play in Orlando.

Instead, Ariza will commit to a one-month visitation window with his young son, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ariza has been involved in a custody case over his 12-year old son.

The mother’s choice of granting a court-ordered one month visitation period during the league’s quarantine of teams in Orlando left Ariza to choose those parenting responsibilities over competing in the restart, Wojnarowski also notes.

The 34-year-old could reportedly lose between $1 million and $1.8 million in salary, depending on if the Trail Blazers make the playoffs.

The Trail Blazers will be allowed to sign another player in place of Ariza.

Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins are both expected to rejoin the team for the season’s restart.
