Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, lauded the NBA for the plan it has outlined where it pertains to the resumption of the season.

The league’s Board of Governors and the NBPA have both signed off on a 22-team restart at an isolated location in Orlando, Florida, and have set a target date of July 31 for a comeback in the wake of the term getting suspended indefinitely on March 11.

Fauci, who has been the main voice in the U.S where COVID-19 is concerned, spoke to Stadium‘s Michael Kim this week and claimed to have taken a look at the NBA’s plan.

“It’s not the classic basketball season but, certainly, for the people who are thirsting for basketball and love basketball the way I do, it’s something that I think is a sound plan,” he said. “I was very pleased to see that the intent wasn’t reckless at all; they really wanted to make sure that the safety of the players and the people associated with the players was paramount.

“I think they [other leagues] could look at that model, see how it works, and then take it from there – maybe modifications of that for some of the other sports.”
