The San Antonio Spurs announced that LaMarcus Aldridge will miss the rest of the season after having right shoulder surgery.

Aldridge had an “arthroscopic subacromial decompression and rotator cuff debridement” on his right shoulder on April 24 in Dallas, so the team reportedly knew for four weeks that they wouldn’t have him when the season resumed.

He is expected to be fully cleared for all basketball activities prior to training camp for the 2020-2021 season.

Under the proposed roster rules, the Spurs would be allowed to replace the injured Aldridge with an injury replacement player; either a G League, Two-Way or any player that was on an NBA roster during the season, according to ESPN NBA front office insider Bobby Marks.

Marks also notes that the Spurs have an open roster spot that they can use to sign a player during the “transaction window” in late June.

The Spurs now have two open roster spots.

Players like Trey Lyles, Jakob Poeltl and Chimezie Metu could see additional minutes in the frontcourt, as the Spurs will likely lean heavily on multiple players to help DeMar DeRozan.

Aldridge averaged 18.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season.

He has never played a full 82-game season in his career.
