On an interview with ESPN The Magazine, Carmelo Anthony discussed a childhood story where someone tried to rob him of $20 at age 14. Instead of simply handing it over and going about his day, he gambled with his life and took off. This really shows what money meant to him at such a young age.
Melo didn’t elaborate much more on the story, but it’s obvious he takes his money seriously. To this day, even making millions of dollars, Carmelo spends his money wisely. Smart decision by Carmelo because according to Sports Illustrated, “60% of NBA players file for bankruptcy within five years of retirement.”
