Gerald Henderson helped the Celtics steal Game 2 of the NBA Finals from the Lakers on this date in 1984

Gerald Henderson stole James Worthy’s pass at scored with 13 seconds left to tie the game at 113, sending the Boston garden crowd into a frenzy. The Celtics went on to win 124-121 in overtime to tie the series at one.

Larry Bird had 27 points and 13 rebounds for Boston.

Magic Johnson had 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for Los Angeles. However, he failed to realize how much time was remaining in regulation and dribbled out the clock without getting a shot off, sending the game to overtime.

The Lakers had another chance to win the game overtime. They trailed 122-121 with eight seconds remaining and had the ball but they once again failed to get a shot off, as Bob McAdoo had the ball stolen from him. Bird made two free throws and the Lakers turned over the ensuing inbounds pass.

The game turned out to be a pivotal one as the Celtics went on to defeat the Lakers in seven games to win the 1984 NBA Finals.
