Washington Wizards head coach and former back-up point guard of the Houston Rockets Scott Brooks claimed they would have beaten the Michael Jordan’s Bulls, if he wouldn’t have retired between the 1993 and 1995.
At the end of the 1993-94 season, the Rockets, led by Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon, won the first of their two NBA titles over the New York Knicks. Jordan stayed away from basketball for 18 months before got back and won three more championships with the Chicago Bulls.
The Houston Rockets reached their pick in the 1993-94 season before winning their second consecutive title in 1995 against the Orlando Magic. Brooks, who was a member of the team that won in ’94, believes the Bulls didn’t have a chance against them.
“[The Bulls] had no answer for [Olajuwon]. It’s easy for me to say this now because it’s all hypothetical, but I don’t think they would have beat us in ’94,” Scott Brooks said on the Wizards Talk podcast, via NBC Sports Washington, per Fadeaway World.
“Now, the next year it could have been a different story. But that ’94 team, ‘Dream’ was, it was like destiny. He was locked in. I’ve never seen a guy up close every fourth quarter, I don’t even think he missed a shot, let alone make a mistake. He had both ends just covered.”
Olajuwon ended his playoff championship run in 1994 with 28.9 points, 11 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4 blocks per game helping Houston win the first title in the history of the franchise.
