David Robinson played with Tim Duncan for a couple of seasons. They both led the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA title, the first in the history of the franchise, in 1999.
Robinson joined the #NBATogether Memorial Day live stream and talked about his old teammate and his presence in the team during the early years of his career.
Here is what Robinson said on Duncan, per ClutchPoints.com:
“Tim, he’s a humble guy,” David Robinson shared about his former Spurs running mate. “I always thought I was kind of quiet, and Tim made me feel like I was loud. But he came in, and he was unassuming and obviously phenomenal. When I first saw him play, I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, you’re incredible. This is gonna be a lot of fun.’ I didn’t think he was gonna be better than me, but I certainly thought he was gonna be really good.
For me, seeing Tim come in and knowing that I had real help, which would give us a real chance to win a championship, that was life-changing right there. I was very excited about it.”
Tim Duncan quickly became a factor for the Spurs, that won 5 NBA championships during his 19-year career in San Antonio. The “Big Fundamental” finished his career being the all-time leader in many categories (games played, blocks and points among others), while David Robinson is first in win shares per 48 minutes, free throws and several others.
