Former NBA champion and current analyst Kendrick Perkins weighed in on the topic of what the NBA return should look like, i.e. should the league bring all 30 teams or have an alternative format. Perkins is against having all of the teams back. “[The NBA] should just bring back 16 teams … To the other 14 teams that didn’t make the playoffs, hey, I feel sorry for your loss,” he said on ESPN’s Get Up.
If the NBA decides to bring back all 30 teams, it would mean that the teams without any chance of qualifying for the playoffs would have to go through the preparation process just to play a few games (in case the season is shortened). In addition, there will be a virus threat even if significantly reduced.
In case only the 16 playoff teams are brought back, those teams would be: Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic (Eastern Conference), Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies (Western Conference).
As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, this week the NBA is digging into the topic of what the NBA format should be like for the season resumption. More clarity should come in the coming week.
