Jon Leuer had a hard time getting by his injury problems the last three seasons. As a result, the 8-year veteran “stretch” forward announced his retirement Sunday evening via his Instagram account.

“I love the game of basketball,” Leuer posted on Instagram. “I still want to play, but I know deep down it’s not the right decision for my health anymore. The past 3 years I’ve dealt with a number of injuries, including 2 that kept me out this whole season. It’s taken me a while to come to grips with this, but I’m truly at peace with my decision to officially retire.”

Leuer, a University of Wisconsin alumni, had a strong presence in the league as a role player in several NBA teams. The 6-foot-10 forward was a second-round pick by the Bucks in the 2011 draft.

He played also in Cleveland, in Memphis, in Phoenix and in Detroit (3 seasons) before announcing the end of his basketball career averaging 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds through 8 seasons in the NBA.
