Former NBA champion and current analyst Kendrick Perkins revealed his All-Time Boson Celtics starting five. It includes four Hall of Famers and one player who should be inducted to it at some point in the future: Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Bill Russell.
There are no point guards in Perkins’ starting five but he has an explanation why. According to him, playmaking abilities of the players he chose will cover the shortage of true point guard.
Larry Bird (with the Celtics through 1979–1992) won the NBA titles with Boston (1981, 1984, 1986). He was 2-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986), 3-time NBA MVP (1984–1986) and 12-time NBA All-Star (1980–1988, 1990–1992) among other accolades.
Paul Pierce (1998–2013) helped the Celtics win championship in 2008 by defeating Lakers in the Finals. He also named the Finals MVP that same year. The Truth was also a 10-time NBA All-Star (2002–2006, 2008–2012).
Ray Allen (2007–2012) was a important piece of the 2008 championship team (he also won a title in 2013 with the Heat). He also a 10-time NBA All-Star (2000–2002, 2004–2009, 2011).
Kevin Garnett (2007–2013) formed the Big Three with Pierce and Allen that the NBA title in 2008. KG was the NBA MVP (2004) and 15-time NBA All-Star (1997, 1998, 2000–2011, 2013) during his career.
Bill Russell (1956–1969) achieved something that will likely never be repeated – he won 11 NBA championships in a span of 13 years (1957, 1959–1966, 1968, 1969). During his Celtics career Russell was 5-time NBA MVP (1958, 1961–1963, 1965) and 12-time NBA All-Star (1958–1969).
