Marquese Chriss may have found his best version of him when he decided to play for the Golden State Warriors. The explosive center became a vital part of the Warriors playstyle with his great passing and rim-running skills.
According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, Chriss could be an important building block for his team in the next few seasons.
“Golden State views Chriss as a potential franchise building block, whose knack for rim-running, passing and interior defense makes him an ideal fit in its system. The front office is so optimistic about his future, according to multiple sources, that it would be comfortable entering next season with him as the starting center. This makes the Warriors less apt to use an early pick on Wiseman – or any other big man, for that matter – than some pundits might assume,” Letourneau noted in his article on the San Francisco Chronicle, per Bleacher Report.
Chriss, in contrast with the Warriors, had a solid season averaging a career-highs in points (9.3), rebounds (6.2), assists (1.9) and blocks (1.1).
The 2016 No. 8 overall pick had four disappointing seasons in the NBA playing for the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Houston Rockets. The Warriors offered him a two-way contract in the summer and then “upgraded” him to a two-year deal.
Steve Kerr used Chriss as a rim-running center as Letourneau noted and that free the young prospect from the obligation to stretch the floor. The Golden State may have the worst record in the league this season, but it seems they found their future center something that it will affect their draft decision.
