Report: NBA free agency will ‘essentially be frozen’

NBA free agency is usually one of the most active times in the league. But, that is expected to not be the case this offseason due to the reduction of the salary cap. ESPN’ Bobby Marks is anticipating players who have opt-outs in their contract to opt-in, which would have a big impact on free agency as reported by Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis was expected to headline the list of high-profile players, who could have become free agents in the summer of 2020. However, the changed economic projections of the league mean AD will almost certainly choose to opt-in.

The same applies to other stars with opt-outs in their contract for the 2020 offseason, such as New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram, Spurs’ DeMar DeRozan, Boston’s Gordon Hayward.
