Magic Johnson had 24 assists in a postseason game on this date in 1984

Magic Johnson led the Los Angeles Lakers past the Phoenix Suns in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. The 118-102 home victory gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead in the series.

Johnson set a playoff record with 24 assists that still stands today. He also scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers. James Worthy posted 19 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Larry Nance played well for the Suns, finishing with 29 points and nine rebounds but it wasn’t enough.

The Lakers went on to eliminate the Suns in six games thanks to Johnson’s excellent play, but they fell to the Boston Celtics in seven games in the NBA Finals.
