Doellman to Barca … or Anadolu Efes?
Newly-crowned Liga Endesa MVP Justin Doellman of Valencia is in talks to join Euroleague side, and ACB rivals Barcelona, TalkBasket understands.
However, with Dusan Ivkovic confirmed as the new head coach of Anadolu Efes, Turkish media have reported that the Serb is in “advanced talks” with Doellman and is preparing to agree a two-year deal with the option of a third year in Istanbul.
Doellman’s current club, Valencia are currently tied at 1-1 in the first round Liga Endesa Playoff game with Cajasol Seville. The American is focusing on the task at hand right now and will decide on his future at the end of the season. Valencia will compete in next season’s Euroleague as Eurocup winners.
Is Dusko Ivanovic Panathinaikos bound?
Bosnia & Herzegovina national team coach Dusko Ivanovic is about to sign a two-year deal with Panathinaikos, according to Greek website Eurohoops.
It means that Fragkiskos Alvertis, who came within a whisker of leading the Athens-based side to the Euroleague Final Four in Milan as head coach; will return to his role as team manager.
Nothing is confirmed just yet.
Before he publicly went racist; Sterling didn’t want fans
Were you an employee of the San Diego Clippers from 1981-84? If so, we bet that you left boardroom meetings or conversations with Donald Sterling shaking your head or had a face full of confusion, right?
It is reported by SI that Sterling, in an attempt to save money back in the early-eighties requested to the then director of marketing Steven Lees that he wanted to convince the crowd NOT to show up to games.
Quotes from the SI article: “At the time [of the meeting] we were drawing just a few thousand fans to the San Diego Sports Arena, which held like 15,000,” Lees says. “Donald comes in and talks about how we are losing money each game because we have to pay security and parking attendants and people to work concessions. Then he says, ‘If we can convince the fans not show up we don’t have to pay all those people.’ He said we needed to find a way to get the fans to not come to games. That way, he said, we could just make money off the radio and TV deals. At the end of the meeting, he said, ‘Let’s go ahead and implement that.’ ” Sterling’s ideas were never implemented.
