More from the NBA today with more news on the sale of the Clippers and Larry Bird telling Lance to stop his antics. We’ll hit you with some of the good stuff from Europe too.

Ballmer submits bid of $2billion for Clippers

As we highlighted in yesterday’ daily gossip, former Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer has submitted a winning bid of $2billion to buy the Los Angeles Clippers.

This despite banned Clippers “owner” Donald Sterling not allowing the deal to go through. However, his wife Shelly Sterling has proceeded with the sale, while the battle between the NBA and Mr. Sterling rages on.

“I am delighted that we are selling the team to Steve, who will be a terrific owner,” Mrs. Sterling said in a statement. “We have worked for 33 years to build the Clippers into a premiere NBA franchise. I am confident that Steve will take the team to new levels of success.”

Make no mistake though, we haven’t heard the last of Donald Sterling.

Larry Bird tells Lance: STOP IT

Two days after Indiana Pacers’ Lance Stephenson blew in LeBron James’ ear, Pacers president Larry Bird called Stephenson in for a meeting.

“He said, ‘Don’t do it again,’ so I’m not going to do it again,” Stephenson said after the Pacers’ shootaround. “He’s kept me on the right path my whole career, and if he says something to me, I take it to heart.”

When asked what would have happened had Stephenson blown in Bird’s ear in a playoff game during Bird’s playing days, Stephenson was blunt.

“There probably would’ve been a fight,” he said. “But this is a different type of game from the ’90s. You can’t throw blows.”

Dinamo Sassari announce Qiu

Italian side Dinamo Sassari have signed Chinese forward Biao Qiu just in time for their Lega A semi-final clash with EA7 Milano.

The player was introduced earlier at the Mediolanum Forum before the game tonight.

“I want to improve as a player, thanks to Dinamo Banco di Sardegna,” Qiu said today. “I’m glad to be here, Sassari is a united team and I’m happy to be here. Thanks to an agreement between my team and Sassari I came to Dinamo, I have been chosen by this company. Again, I’m very very happy with this opportunity.”

Bailey returns to Cheshire

British Basketball League side Cheshire Phoenix have re-signed their Player of the Year Devan Bailey on a two-year deal.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce that Devan has signed,” said Cheshire chairman Andrew Donaldson. “He is not just a homegrown talent, he is a Cheshire-grown talent. Signing him to a longer deal not only gives the team continuity and stability but also shows the board’s commitment to improving on last season’s results and building a successful club.

“He made everyone sit up last season and he has proved his worth, both on and off the court for the club. The fans recognised his contribution in a season where there were plenty of contenders for the MVP award, and we believe we have secured the services of one of the best British talents in the BBL Championship.”
