Christian Wood has steered interest in the NBA, after experiencing a career season this year. Wood became the starting forward/center of the Detroit Pistons elevating his game this season.

The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III reported this week that the Boston Celtics have an interest in acquiring the Pistons big man, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

As Edwards wrote, the Celtics inquired about him on more than one occasions at this year’s trade deadline, but they couldn’t reach an agreement with the Pistons.

Wood was averaging 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season and scored a career-high 31 points in Detroit’s last game before the shutdown on March 11. The Celtics will not have room to sign the “up and coming” forward unless Enes Kanter and Gordon Hayward decline their options for next season.

With the uncertainty around the salary cap due to the coronavirus pandemic, no one knows what the future holds for the upcoming free agency, but the Celtics are really in need of an upgrade in their front-line and they would definitely love to have Wood in their roster next season.
