Daily Gossip, Friday 23/5/14

Friday’s gossip headlines a big day for the Los Angeles Clippers, but their “ownership difficulties” are not 100 percent clear yet.

Sterling agrees to sell Clippers. But…

Shamed Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has finally agreed to sell the franchise, BUT he has given his wife the permission to negotiate a sale of the team.

Shelly Sterling has been in talks with the NBA over the sale of the Clippers franchise since Donald was banned for life for racist comments back on April 29.

It has been reported that Mrs. Sterling did not intend to sell the team and wanted to have sole ownership of the Clippers. This news did not go down too well with the NBA players, including the Clippers, whose players association president [NBPA] is point guard Chris Paul.

She has now said that will sell the team but it remains unclear how much she intends to sell. The situation is ongoing.

Boeheim: Ennis can run an NBA team

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has told ESPN that his former point guard from last season Tyler Ennis is ready to ‘run an NBA team’.

His latest comments are a stark contrast from when Ennis declared himself available for this year’s NBA Draft. Boeheim told SportsCenter:

“I think he is a great college player, but I think physically he could have used another year.”

The legendary coach though appeared on an ESPN podcast earlier his week and made a quick U-turn on his thoughts regarding Ennis and the NBA.

“He has got the size and the knowledge and the ability to be a professional point guard,” Boeheim said on the podcast. “I think people will see that. I think they saw it during the year and I think they’ll see that when they see him one-on-one. He’s smart. He’s mature beyond his years. He had almost a 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio here. He’s really ready and able, I think, to run an NBA team.”

Ibaka listed as day-to-day for West Finals

Oklahoma City Thunder forward and Spanish international Serge Ibaka has remarkably been listed as day-to-day following a calf injury that had ruled him out for the season.

General Manager Sam Presti released this statement:

“The abundance of blood and therefore swelling in Serge’s calf has reduced substantially and unexpectedly, allowing a level of movement and stability not thought possible after the initial diagnosis. Based on both imaging and physical exam, the considerable swelling in the calf indicated the likelihood of a certain degree of injury, and that established the original time frame for recovery.

At present, Serge has yet to complete a full basketball workout, but is walking and doing light basketball drills. With this new information, and in an effort to keep his status current, we are now listing him as day-to-day with the understanding that there is a possibility for him to play in this series.”

Galatasaray “unlikely” to get Euroleague A Licence

Galatasaray general manager Murat Ozyer has admitted that Galatasaray are unlikely to get an A Licence to play automatically in next season’s Euroleague.

After meeting with Euroleague officials, he broke the news to Turkish media but remained hopeful of a place. The TBL side have to reach the Finals or better yet, win to advance.
