Ivica Zubac, the starting center of the Los Angeles Clippers, talked about his cousin Zoran Planicic and credited him for the motivation the Croatian forward gave him to play in the NBA.

“What really pushed me into chasing basketball, even more, was my cousin making the NBA too, in 2003,” the Clippers big man said in the Legit Check podcast, per Eurohoops.net.

“That’s when he got drafted seeing him coming from the same place that I grew up, made me realize ‘I can do this too. If he can do it, I can do it too,’ That was my biggest motivation. Seeing him get drafted, playing in the NBA.”

Planicic was the 22nd pick in the 2003 NBA Draft selected by the Nets. After 13 years, Zubac had his moment as the Los Angeles Lakers selected the young big early in the second round (32nd pick) of the 2016 NBA draft.

Zubac, a key member of the contending Clippers the last two seasons, averaged 8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 blocks in 62 games this year.
